Life Changing Validation
This book is one of the most validating and powerful reads Iโve ever experienced. Being abused by narcissists warps your mind in ways that most people donโt comprehend and this book puts that distortion to rest. Itโs important to note, the perspective taken mainly speaks of narcissistic partners, but it is also applicable to family members (and other narcissists) as well. Donโt be discouraged by this. While Iโve encountered both, this book helped me tremendously with understanding and navigating life post narcissistic abuse from a family member. Make time and space to try the exercises, they are so helpful in reprogramming your brain from the distortions installed by narcissists. Oh and did I forget, the authorโs voice is very powerful and uplifting. She speaks like a warrior, a fighter - more than just survivor. Itโs infectious and itโs so inspiring. She more than lives up to her instagram handle!

Informative
Good guide book for someone coming out of a bad situation. You have to overlook the author almost always refers to the narcissist as โ heโ

Abuse shaped the victim I was. I shape the survivor I am.
I have spent the last three years throwing myself into every kind of self help and development program I can to try and heal, but I found myself bumping up against an invisible wall I couldn't describe or understand. After starting therapy earlier this year I learned I had emotional trauma resulting from emotional abuse. From that I began my search anew and discovered this book. The emotional peace and freedom I have gained from this book have impacted me far more than anything else and I finally feel I have the understanding and language to describe what I have been going through. The author has the approach of a survivor, someone who intimately understands what I have been trying so hard to understand myself and could never describe to someone else. She speaks from the same emotional places of hurt and recovery I need, and I can almost feel her nodding her head along with my own wounds and comforting me. At the same time as she speaks subjectively, she includes the relevant research from therapists and specialists in the field, providing links and references to support everything she speaks about. Ultimately combining her approach-ability and comfort with hard facts. Ultimately this book helped guide me to where I can confidently say... "Abuse shaped the victim I was. I shape the survivor I am."

Every week felt like a month had passed
This book has been a saving grace for me. I originally discovered it from a google search leading me to one of Ms. Arabi's essay regarding the 20 manipulative tactics used to silence you. I didn't actually even realize my ex (who I was still trying to remain friends with up until 2 weeks ago) was a narcissist. I knew he had bipolar and later found out he was discharged from the military for personality disorder (now I know what that truly means), I thought they were one in the same! I was shocked to discover he fit almost every single criteria of narcissism. While I don't believe he's a malignant narcissist, I do believe he is VERY close to that spectrum. I couldn't understand how a strong and loving woman such as myself kept falling back in with this guy. Every week felt like a month had passed, it was always so chaotic and disorientating. I was ashamed that I couldn't just quit him! Even up until the end it wasn't me that walked away, I was gifted with a 10 minute rant of how I was a terrible person, how I was crazy, how I was undiagnosed with schizophrenia and some sort of rapid thought disorder (whatever that even is) and then blocked from all communication. Before when I was blocked I was devastated, this time I was just over it. Yet days later I wanted him back. This book helped me realize I was actually physically addicted to him, the very words I told my therapist (yes I had to seek out therapy after we first broke up). I guess long story not so short, I'm so very grateful to have discovered this book, it has given me tools to get myself back, realize that what was happening to my mind, my emotions were completely normal and validated. So thank you from the bottom of my heart Ms. Arabi, you have really helped yet another person heal from this devestating abuse.

Thank you for writing such a helpful, scientific and yet pragmatic book without drama or sensationalism. Calm, orderly and practical, it helps regain confidence and the ability to be yourself without fear of recrimination and in turn to let your abuser go and not come back.

Im a medical student, I read it a while a go and it really cool that has scientific evidence. It validates what you feel. Other books that I recommend if you happen to deal with a similar situation are The power of now by Eckhart Tolle and how to be a 3% man men by Coach corey. POWER helps validate what you feel understand what happen, helps you avoid the past mistakes and learn from there. Things do get better, I now how it feel to be down but trust me in some clock time you will looking back to this as one of the experience that most help you grow and learn. Things get better. The best is yet to come.

Shahida is probably the best author on this topic of narcissists. I had the misfortune to be with a covert narcissistic psychopath who made my life a nightmare of indescribable pain. Her books helped me to begin to understand what I was dealing with. If you only buy this book youโll be in front.
