Can staple small amount of sheets or do you need to use a regular 1/4 staple?

I bought this stapler, but I returned it because it did not perform as I would expect a stapler to do. what size staples does it use?

It takes special staples. Swingline Optima Jam Free Staples, High Capacity. I can find them on Staples, and Office Depot... for around $4.09 a box (it's just a little tin of them -- 2,500 in a tin). Hope this helps!

Does this stapler open flat to staple things to a bulletin board?

I think so...but overall a piece of junk. I would not recommend.

does this take standard staples?

no, you need to buy "high capacity" staples. I couldn't find the Swingline brand at Office Max store the last time I was there, so I bought Paper Pro high capacity for 10-65 sheets. They work fine. Paper Pro # 1962. Or the Swingline brand (I could probably buy them online, but I needed them that day and couldn't wait).
