Holman New Testament Commentary - John

I teach a class on Sunday mornings at my church, and this book has been a valuable resource in our study of John. Even though my class is young (6th - 8th graders) it is easily adaptable for bright young students, and my class finds the extra cultural/geographic information interesting. There are some great ideas for spiritual discussion starters in here (not a bunch of touchy-feely spiritual junk food that is so prevalent in youth "study" materials). There is real meat here and my students eat it up (90% happen to be boys). I love it for my own study (it is written for adults, let me be clear), and pick and choose things out of the book to share with the class. One of my favorite resources.

This is an excellent resource for anyone wanting to study the Bible in-depth or lead a Bible study for people.

The Holman NewTestament Commentary for the Book of John, that we ordered, came in promptly. It was also in very good condition. The commentaries were supposed to be new and they looked new. The covers were in perfect condition. We have several members who like to get the Holman Commentaries on each Book of the Bible. They are very acceptable. We appreciate the timely arrival of the commentaries. It is imperative that the Sunday School teachers have what they need to supplement the Sunday School Lesson.

I have a new Apologetics edition of the Holman Christian Standard Bible. I was looking forward to using the new commentaries in my study of Scripture as I prepare to teach on the gospel of John on Wednesday nights. The new "commentary" on the New Testament Gospel of John published by Holman, edited by Max Anders and authored by Kenneth O. Gangel is very easy to read. Unfortunately, I would not recommend it to a student who wishes to do an in-depth study of the gospel. I am afraid that it includes too much of what I feel today's student is already being taught: that is just a light "coating" of knowledge and/or understanding. There is not enough depth to make it suitable for the student who wishes to gain a deeper understanding of what this gospel, especially, teaches.

We are so thankful in our church Library to replace this book that had been missing for over a year. We now have the completed set again. Thank you so very much.

I love how it explains verses in context and allows for personal application. Great for the layman!

Love this series. It goes in depth, and then gives you strong outlines and discussion questions for bible studies.
