Is their padding on the bottom of the back to protect a laptop and books from damage?

There is a bit of padding at the bottom.

Would a 17" laptop fit? And is it a tight squeeze or will it be fine?

Bought this backpack 4 my Grandson for work and he is extremely happy with it. Carries a lot of stuff in it 4 work. Eg. Lunch box, large water bottle, a coat and work boots etc. Even use it to carry his shopping in.says it's firm and rain proof. Good value 4 money. Will recommend 👌
