Mighty Mighty Bosstones: Devils Night Out Vinyl LP

I can remember my uncle mentioning these guys and how he had bought an album of theirs and how much he loved it, though I am not sure if it was this album or another one of theirs, but in either case, I was somewhat intrigued at the time (I think was about 14 or 15 at the time). So now, having realized I really should check these guys out, I decided to buy this album and give it a listen. Having listened to it from start to finish, I can honestly say that I have no regrets at all. So, where to begin? First and foremost, I find the sync of heavy, striding guitars with extensive use of horns to be one of the most creative fusions in rock music I have ever had the pleasure of hearing. From a rhythmical and structural perspective, it is quite obvious that this is more punk-influenced rock music, given the extremely fast-paced high energy, shorter song lengths and not to mention the aggressive-sounding vocals. However, in contrast with punk rock music, despite the obvious influences, the lyrics are clearly meant to be more comical and not at all rebellious. While listening, I could not for second stop myself from laughing hysterically! Some might say the lyrics are raunchy (and I will not disagree) but at least they are not vile, gross, disgusting or sexually explicit, such as in the case of garbage like Ke$ha, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Lil Wayne, or any of that other infernal, club-dance, auto-tuned noise that musically illiterate drones like to call "music." If you are going to have raunchy lyrics, at least do it tastefully, and these guys do it in spades. All in all, this is an absolutely awesome and hysterical album, and there is no reason for any fan of basic, yet fun-filled and comical rock music not to own this album. They definitely pound the living daylights out of hack bands like Weezer, Green Day or Nickelcrap. I should not even have to say that, because that is just common sense. Just buy this album already! You won't regret it.

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones rock!! Especially their early stuff. If you only know them by one song - you do not know this band. Some of my favorite tracks on this album include Drunks and Children, Hope I Never Lose My Wallet, The Bartender's Song and of course Devil's Night Out...scratch that...every song kicks butt!!)

This is the best of the early MMB. Solid, gritty and some anger, which is what one looks for in the MMB.

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones came out in 1989 with a unique mix of ska and hardcore punk or Ska-core. This is their debut album and it is loads of fun. There are only 10 songs on the album and many of them are very short. When the album ends, you want so much more! The highlights for me are: "Devil's Night Out", "Hope I Never Lose My Wallet", "Haji", and "Do Somethin' Crazy". These songs are so great its no wonder that they were all staples of the Bosstones' live concerts through out the 1990's when they were enjoying a good degree of success. This is a great introduction to the Mighty Mighty Bosstones' music!

I don't write many reviews. I got into these guys back when "Don't Know How to Party" came out and I worked by way backwards to "Devil's Night Out" and while both are great albums, "Devil's Night" is just more raw, live, and fun. We used to party our aces off in college to this one, espcially "bartender song" and "the cave" although the whole album is good. Its a party in and of itself.
