Good edc
I’ve owned this for a few years now. 5 stars awarded for what you get at the price point I bought it at: $20. I really like the rubberized handle material. Handle is just big enough for a comfortable grip. The blade came sharp. The sheathe has the right amount of retention. Overall size is perfect for a fixed blade pocket knife. The way it looks like a mini katana is awesome. One thing I noticed, as a long time fan of the cold steel tanto, is that this is not their signature style of American tanto (which is hollow ground on the long edge, and Sabre ground at the tip edge). This has the same compound grind on both edges, I’m assuming to reduce costs. I like the other Kyoto slightly more but only due to preference of shape. One problem I have with both kyotos in an edc context is that the guard is not great if you want to put your thumb on the spine for greater control. You sacrifice that for the overall look, which in my opinion is worth it since I have plenty of other knives. Not the best carving knife or edc, but definitely worth $20 for the looks and it’s still handy all the time. This would make a great gift for that Japanophile in your life.

Nice knife
It’s a decent knife. I like the shape, that’s more than likely why anyone is going to purchase this knife. It’s tiny, the blade is shorter than the palm of my hand, this makes it a nice size to throw in a pocket and have on hand without feeling like you’re carrying a bunch of extra things. It didn’t come sharp but it sharpens nicely and holds an edge for a while, the geometry of the blade makes it awkward to sharper though. The sheath is very tight, it locks snugly in place. I would recommend this knife if you need something small for everyday use and like the aesthetic of the blade.

Cool, compact, fixed blade EDC
This must be the cutest practical tanto knife in the market. Not many fixed blades can fit so comfortably in the pocket and still offer all the utility of an everyday carry. That's mostly thanks to a 9.55cm blade that on a folding knife would need at least an 11cm handle. The handle on the Kyoto I is just 8.7cm so it's about 3cm shorter than an equivalent folding knife. The small handle is a tight fit for a full finger grip with my hands (10cm across the palm) but is perfect for a 3/4 grip with the side of my pinky up against the end of the handle still aiding in fine control. The faux tsukamaki (Japanese handle wrap) pattern on the handle is a nice touch that enhances grip security. The Kyoto I comes with a Secure-Ex sheath but without any loops or belt clips. I suppose that's fine given the price. Retention is good; I haven't been able to shake the knife out of the sheath. Given the Kyoto I's size it would work well as a neck knife or boot knife, but I think I'll add loops or a clip to the sheath for horizontal belt carry. The blade was very sharp but not quite razor sharp out of the box. I've used it for some light cutting and package opening tasks and don't currently see the need to further sharpen at the moment. Overall an interesting, useful, and fun knife that's a great value at the current price (bought at $22.29).

Great Quality for price - for small hands only
The quality of the blade and the rubber stylized handle are excellent! Its sheath/holster locks the blade in very well! It came sharp and it feels really sturdy. Now its a small blade with a small handle (read the measurements carefully) so if you have large or chunky hands its an awkward and uncomfortable fit. Ill use mine to open letters and amazon boxes.. too small to fit comfortably in my grip.

Sharp durable small size knife cuts anything
This is the second one I now own. I carry this when I handcycle, I am paralyzed and ride flat on the ground and Dogs do not like me because I am different. I hope never to need to use it but I have limited ability to protect myself. This is an extremely sharp knife be careful it will cut you easily. It is a small size but has a great fit to your hand and will cut about anything you can think of. Great price for a great tool which is well made and keeps a sharp edge.

Good knife!!!!!!
It coms sharp. Very cool mini katana looking knife lol. Very sturdy light weight. Handle is a little short for big hands but you just learn how to use it. Does not have a belt clip but I use zip ties and run it sideways on my belt in the front for easy access. Ok as for what kind of work I use it for......... I work as a landscaper........ I cut grass in cemeteries and apartment buildings. I use my knife for almost everything.... I pry crap with it (within reason) cut all the debris that get wrapped around my blades. Cut branches from under trees I have to cut under. Cut whip string ........ Use it to clean around grave stones, I mean dirt rocks ...... Everything. I have had it for about four months and I carry it everyday.... I also work at a restaurant and I use it breakdown boxes and stuff of that nature. Small, quick to deploy, easy to carry, sturdy and I have only sharpened it twice........ All around good blade.

Great little tanto Blade knife
Has a good feel in my large 8" hand and a nice edge. Overall very well made for the price or even double. Shealth tight rugged plastic that think enough to last. You use cord as a belt loop or any other means of tiedown for quick access. Make a great boot knife with a few leather cords to hold.

Mini Masterpiece
This is one fine little knife. The grip is outstanding (fits my hand perfectly). The weight is what I would expect from a robust knife however on the light side. The sharpness was something that I’m a little bit critical of (I like blades to be outrageously sharp) but, a few passes on the porcelain rod and a light stropping did the trick. The sheath when paired with a c-clip is something awesome. My state will allow me to carry it concealed and I have mounted to my belt at an angle where it’s comfortable and covered. It carries securely. And, finally I must say that when I use it for utility stuff (as I do) I get the experience of handling a well balanced, well designed work horse of a knife. I love the thing.

I've watched some reviews on YouTube over this and saw the reviews and images and decided to try it out. Really enjoy this blade a lot. It's the smallest of my blades yet by no means is it small in significance. The handle is perfect for gripping. Very nice rubber material on a Japanese Kanata style. Very nice to hold and swing with and the guard helps with any slippage. The size is perfect too it fits comfortably in shorts or track pants instant plus. Pockets of jackets, hoodies, shorts, jeans, neck knife, you name it this blade is small enough for it. My favourite way to hold it is reverse while making a fist, makes for a really nice weapon for defense. It's a a good slasher and puncture tool too. It's also good for minor bushcraft tasks love cutting twigs or small branches, etc, nothing major or heavy duty though this is mainly for EDC carry. It's a 3 inch blade so it's nice mix of length to be just enough to inflict back off damage and warning slashes before inflicting real damage. My main EDC carries are my Smith and Wesson 24/7 tanto, and cold steel kyoto Tantos. (S & W in my bag, kyoto in my pocket). I bought a backup 24/7 since I loved it so much and I'm going to do the same with the Kyoto 1. Thinking of picking up cold steel gi tanto and tanto machete next as well as Smith and wesson sv7 tanto (next size up from 24/7). Going to get at least 3 more and give one to my girlfriend as well as store one in my car and one in my night stand as well as one in my pocket at all times. Its an extremely pocketable and portable blade. Really like these small sized blades. Interested in getting a couple Kyoto IIs now too. As far as the Kyoto 1 goes, nifty little blade. Really like it. Great for young women or women in general to carry as defense as to fit in purses/small pockets etc.
