Bristles are best for cleaning stem AND shank.

I bought these for my first foray into tobacco pipes. In the 10-bundles pack option, there are enough individual pipe cleaners for a very long time--even at one/day, that's more than a year's supply. I also appreciated that they're actually made in the USA still. The bristles in the cleaners work as designed--they're far more scrubby along the narrow passaged of a pipe than their non-bristled friends. It's a good idea to ensure that it's your intent to get the bristle kind, rather than the smooth or soft options (I didn't realize the difference when purchasing, but now I've got both options).

Bunches of them for a fair price, they're fairly stiff so using them doesn't cause them to bend to easily, the only "problem" I seen was say 2-3 out of the first pack had stray fibers sticking out not loose but sticking out still more than usable actually I think it helped to pull out more resinous moisture so what the heck. yeah I'd buy them again.

The quality control needs improvement. Almost every packet has several pipe cleaners with a partial or complete absence of bristles. The bulk of the pipe cleaners are fine.
