Will this crush pills it fine enough to go into a feeding tube without plugging?

Yes it will. The plates that crush the pills have groves so you can move the pill bag slightly between pumping the handle and it will crush to a fine powder. Again I recommend the Silent Knight bags because they are sturdy enough not to get holes and you can get most the pill residue with little effort. I use a plastic spoon since I mix the pills in applesauce.

Can you not use any pouches/bags when you use this crusher? It adds to costs.

You have to use a baggie. You put the pill in the baggie and place the baggie in the crusher. Ziploc type bags don't work as they are not durable enough. The bags are a must.

can you crush meds that in capsules and not tablets?

Not sure why you would want to do that. You can cut capsules. This will crush pills very well but I'd be afraid there might be sharp edges on the residual capsule material.
