Really works
Works well but also have to set your mind to making it work. The taste is horrendous if you attempt to bite your nails but I have heard some people are determined or have such an addiction to biting that they can overcome this terrible taste. Not me. It worked for me.

It worked!
Our 4yr old child resisted every possible intervention for his finger sucking - positive reinforcement, hot sauce, a different bitter product, finger guards, arm braces that wouldn't let his arms bend. He overcame them all. Then as a last resort we tried this beautifully bitter anti-nail biting click pen. It worked and it worked really, really well! The solution is bitter and it tastes bad (not as terrible as I thought - it didn't make me or my kids gag), BUT it doesn't get all over everything which means it was very effective at preventing finger sucking, but didn't interfere with eating. It doesn't wash off easily, but will fade over the course of the day which is a huge plus in my book. We applied it 2x a day just on the nails of the fingers he sucks (after breakfast and at night), and in about a week our child didn't reflexively try to suck his fingers all day long. A week after that we were forgetting to apply it and he was not attempting to finger suck unless napping or sleeping. About 3 weeks into it, we are now down to just nights and we probably don't even need to do that. We have not noticed any peeling skin as reported in other reviews. This product changed our life and our child is so proud of himself for breaking the habit! I'm so glad we found it! We did try a different bitter product over a year ago and it was way too strong and the bitter taste would transfer to everything. Nail Quail is a far superior product and our kids daycare said they could keep it in the class given the natural ingredients. Day care has never had to use it - it's presence is enough of a deterrent.

Effective, but not long-lasting
Overall, this is a good product, but having used more traditional nail-polish-type deterrants in the past, I found this to be less effective. I'm giving it four stars due to the application being very convenient and different, but the result was that I ended up biting my nails again more often, as I will explain. I am a lifelong heavy nail biter, and despite using deterrants for 2 years and trying very hard to curb the habit, it's still a challenge. For the last 2 years I used Mavala stop nail polish, which has an intensely bitter taste and is basically a clear bottle of nail polish with bitter chemical added. As long as I keep this nail polish on, I can't bite my nails. Although the polish is water resistant, it wears off in about 2-3 days and by the end of the second day, I may find myself putting my fingers in my mouth some and attempting to bite my nails despite remnants of the bitter polish still being there. This is where these deterrants all hit a snag for me. If I'm not diligent about keeping it on my nails, I go back to biting. Which brings me to the Nail Quail. I bought it to try something different. This product has a similar strong bitter taste, and the applicator is so much more convenient than the nail polish bottle. Initially I was extremely happy with the product because of how much more quickly I could apply it to my nails, and it dries fast too as it is water-based. However, also because it is water-based, I found that within a single day it has already washed almost completely off of my hands (I wash my hands regularly throughout the day, especially when I'm working). To use this effectively, I need to reapply it multiple times each day, instead of ~3 times each week. That doesn't mean it's totally ineffective, but for my case it isn't perfect either. The shape of the product is like a marker, and I think it's meant to be slipped into a pocket or purse to carry around and reapply when out and about. I haven't done this, but I suppose I'll need to start. If I could get a formula of this that was more water resistant with the same applicator tip, I think it would be just about perfect.

Effective but strong!!
I've been a biter since I was a kid... nails, cuticles, the finger flesh itself --- I'm in my 40s now and I swear by this stuff. I've bought it 4 or 5 times now. Admittedly, I'm not consistent in my application of it so one pen lasts me at least 4 months. Also, it hasn't broken the habit in that I still bite my fingers without it, but not as much. I apply quite a lot at one time. I click about 3-4 times until I see the liquid visibly on the brush tip and apply it to the end of each finger. I only have to apply it every 2-3 days as I can taste it after washing hands several times, taking a shower, washing dishes. It does dry out my fingers a bit, but I just add cuticle cream or a tiny bit of hand lotion to combat that. I'd say the only downside for me is that any finger foods can end up tasting like it if you're not careful and if you tend to lick sauce or something off your fingers, don't!

Not full 7mL but only thing that works
This is the only product that works to keep my kid from sucking his thumb. However, ive never been able to get the full (advertised) 7mL out of it. With this last one we transitioned the liquid to a 5mL nail polish jar since the pen sometimes leaks (and you definitely dont want to get it on you!) You can tell the 5mL jar isn't even full and the pen clicked and clicked with no more drops of liquid. I even measured the jar empty and with the liquid and it wasnt even 6mL. Will continue to get because, as stated, this is the only thing that works. However, minus 2 stars for not getting a full 7mL and an occasional leaky pen. The click click click is ridiculous and we there's no way to know how much is left. Trying to upload videos of clicking and weighing.

Bad habit breaker
My 5 year-old son quit sucking is thumb within-in two attempts. The first time, we put this stuff on all his fingers, and he cried himself to sleep. He avoided his thumb the next day. After two days he went back to normal routine - sucking his thumb. We took a break from the pen mostly because I wasn't consistent with it. We gave it a second try a few months later. It was like a lightbulb went off in his head. He accepted his fate, and didn't attempt to suck his thumb, and hasn't since. It's been almost a year since he's stopped sucking his thumb. Results could be a combination of how nasty the taste is - kind of like licking your ear wax, except much worse - and child's personality. Give it a try, this may be the push your kid needs to break a bad habit.

This is amazing
I didn’t expect a pen to fix a habit I’ve had since I was a kid… but here we are. I’ve been a chronic nail biter for YEARS. Stress, boredom, driving, watching TV — didn’t matter. I’d catch myself doing it without even thinking. I’ve tried the bitter nail polish, fidget toys, even willpower alone (yeah… that didn’t last long). Nothing stuck. Then I found the Nail Quail Strong Will Click Pen — and honestly, this thing is different. First off, it’s subtle. It looks like a regular pen, so I can use it anywhere — at work, in the car, on the couch — without feeling weird about it. Every time I get the urge to bite, I just start clicking it. That simple action interrupts the habit loop immediately. And here’s the crazy part: it actually retrains your brain. Instead of going: urge → bite nails → regret It becomes: urge → click pen → move on After about a week, I noticed I was reaching for the pen automatically instead of my mouth. That’s never happened before. What I love most: • No gross taste or chemicals • No damage to nails or skin • Works instantly in the moment • Portable and discreet • Actually helps build a new habit instead of just punishing the old one My nails are finally starting to look normal again. That alone is worth it. If you’re someone who’s tried everything and keeps falling back into nail biting, this is 100% worth trying. It’s simple, but it works — and sometimes that’s exactly what you need. Didn’t think I’d ever say this, but… I might finally be done biting my nails.

It works.
This works very well. It is absolutely disgusting and my kid does not bite their nails while this stuff is on it. However whatever they touch it gets all over. If it's on their hands and they touch your hand and then you touch your mouth you will taste it. And you will not be able to get the taste out of your mouth for a while. I wish there was some way for it to dry onto their hands so that they were the only ones that suffered but the fact that it works so well means I will probably continue to use this product.
