One of the most reliable water-packed sardines I’ve found
I spent a lot of time researching sardines before buying regularly, and King Oscar kept standing out for quality, consistency, and long-term reputation. The brand has been around for over a century, and that shows in the product. These brisling sardines are wild-caught, wood-smoked, hand-packed, and packed in water with very simple ingredients. A lot of the negative reviews seem to miss an important point: these are packed in water, not oil. Water-packed sardines will naturally have a more direct aroma and more pronounced fish flavor. Oil, especially olive oil or seasoned varieties, softens both the smell and the taste. So if someone is expecting the milder profile of oil-packed sardines, they may not like these, but that does not mean the product is low quality. In my experience, the quality has been consistent across multiple orders, including shipping. The fish are clean, well-packed, and exactly what I want when I’m looking for a straightforward sardine without added oils or heavy flavoring. If you want a mild, oil-packed sardine, buy that version. But if you want a simple, high-quality, water-packed sardine from a trusted brand, these are excellent.

Best type of Sardines I can find! great nutrition, small fish, if you like the taste of sardine you won't be disappointed in this one.

Clean and consistent brand.
Size is not huge, about 2.5-3". Nicely packed, in water, taste good, texture firm. Consistent throughout. Happy I have a 12 pack where stores are running out.

i still think its the best and will keep buying it
based on all the research that i have done, i believe KO Sardines in water is the very best. this brand is also lowest in contaminants like arsenic and lead, unlike the Wild Planet sardines in water

Note these are ONE LAYER, not two layer. Not bad but relatively tasteless.
I did not notice that these are ONE LAYER sardines, not the two layer (with smaller fish) I get in the store, which comes in identical packaging (except for labeling that these are one layer). (I got them packed in water.) I suppose they still have the nutritional benefits of the two layer but definitely not the taste of the two layer. They are relatively tasteless compared to the two layer. If I'd noticed they were one layer, especially after eating a can, I probably wouldn't have gotten them, although the nutritional value is still strong. Each can is seemingly a powerful little pack of good nutrition. I'll finish out the box I got but won't order more. Now if they offer two layer, I'd probably buy in.

Good taste and texture
Wonderful texture and flavor with a slight smoked taste. These are Brisling sardines which are small with skin and bones. Packed in water and Per can it had 8 plus sardines according to the package. Didn’t count it. It’s not dry and packaged per serving there is 2900 mg of omega 3 fatty acids. This is a good nutrient content. I do add good quality olive oil before serving.

Dijon Mustard sardines have more pustard than sardines...
We love King Oscar sardines, and buy all their different flavors BUT the Mustard one is a huge disappointment. When you open the can, there is a huge blob of mustard, a very thick layer, and underneath just a row of mustard soaked sardines. The sardines just taste like mustard, nothing else. Do not recommend getting this one at all! If I ever want mustard on my sardines, I will buy a regular kind of King Oscar sardines and add a drop of mustard! The end result is a can of mustard! Very salty, and you cannot taste the sardines at all. Surprised they are so expensive too.....

King Oscar is my fav brand of sardines. Water pack is OK. 👍
I normally buy them with extra virgin olive oil, or just olive oil but the water pack was on sale so I bought 36 cans. I drain the water, put them in a bowl, add 2 tbs of lemon juice, 1 - 1/2 tbs good tasting olive oil, salt and pepper. Wow so good! I eat them for lunch or ??? They’re also great with mustard and olive oil, or just hot sauce. I eat them outside and toss the fishy can and disposable bowl and spoon ASAP thus keeping the fish smell to a minimum. I just finished a 99 hour sardine fast and got great results. Search youtube “Dr. Boz sardine challenge” to learn more. Really a great metabolic reset. I’ll do it again 😀

Me gusta la versión en agua, que es difícil encontrar. Ideal para servir con huevo duro, jitomate, pepino. Muy saludable y nada pesado, sobre todo en la merienda.
