This device is used for adjusting a surface until it is either entirely (and accurately) level or plumb (level except that it's vertical instead of horizontal)... or exactly diagonal at 45.0 degrees. Watch the bubble that corresponds with the angle you want to verify until it (the bubble) is centered between the two little registration lines. Note that in each of these three orientations, one of the little bubble vials will be exactly horizontal. That one contains the bubble you should be watching.
