Oliver Queen has been a faithful member of the Justice League of America and defended Star City with his trusty bown and an arsenal of deadly arrows for years--now thrill to the definitive tale of how he became Green Arrow! Queen is a frivolous playboy with little care for anyone or anything--apparently even himself. But when he's double-crossed and marooned on a jungle island, he finds that he does care about something: justice! Review: Couldn't put this book down, the bad thing is I recieved it at work. LOL - Let me just say that I have been a long die hard fan of Superman and enjoy Batman as well. I never really payed to much attention to other characters really besides Green lantern and Martian Manhunter. What really got me looking at Green Arrow was when he was introduced to the tv show Smallville. (of course I watch the show, its about superman) I liked the character of Green Arrow on smallville because he is a cocky but suave kind of guy so I started to look around for books involving him, and then I ran across Green Arrow: Year One. First of all have you seen the cover art? the black background with just a reflection of Oliver Queen within a green arrowhead was awesome enough to buy it but the story inside was even more exciting.. And now my review You pick up this book and the first thing that stands out is the art which continues to get more and more detailed as the story moves along. This is not just your regular run of the mill, heres the character and this is what he does and what he is known for. This is a reinvention of one of the most awesome characters in the DC universe. This book does a great job of introducing our character Oliver Queen and shows that he is just the rich playboy that everyone is expected to be when they are as wealthy as he is. I hate to give spoilers so I will just say it takes him making a fool of himself at a social event(a very funny part of the story) for him to come to a realization that he must change a few things. Well he goes for a getaway and runs across a bad lot of people and has to figure out a way to survive. We see him become a Robinson Crusoe and we see as his ability to focus starts to set up his new identity. He begins to build a strong ethical code and we see him start to mature in front of our very eyes and take on something that is much bigger than just himself. The writing is superb and the art is outstanding. I will tell you this, this book has now pole vaulted Green Arrow into number 2 on my favorites list of characters behind only Superman (no way he gets knocked out of number 1) I also picked up the Green Arrow and the Longbow Hunters 3 book set, that shows a darker more adult focused story of green arrow and crimes. I suggest if you read Year One and want more start with The Longbow Hunters and then move on to the ARCHERS Quest Series starting with Quiver. They are worth it. Review: great book - Phenomenal story and beautiful art. Definitely recommend this book. This was my first green arrow story. Can’t wait to read more

I gave it a 4 star because of the fold and I wasn't the tip of the corner it went up pretty far and can be fixedd if u know how
I have received the comic a few days ago and have read it. I must say the collection is a really well written series and would suggest it to many of my friends. My only problem is when the package arrived I open it to find the bottom corner somewhat bent, which I know it was sent in the mail so something is bound to happen to the book in some cases but I am letting anyone one know because this is a review. There was a few very little wrinkles on one of the pages but it is something minuscule and almost unnoticeable. I gave it a 4 star because of the fold and I wasn't the tip of the corner it went up pretty far and can be fixedd if u know how. Overall get it it is a nice book with a good story and art is magnificent.

Some Inspiration for the CW's ARROW. Excellent retake on Ollie's origin
I've been a huge fan of Oliver Queen since I stumbled across the Longbow Hunters mini series in the early 90s. Mike Grell and Denny O'Neill shaped my opinion of who Oliver Queen should be. While I like Kevin Smith's Quiver, the Judd Winnick years were atrocious. So I was pleasantly surprised (okay knocked off my butt) by Diggle and Jock's excellent tweak of Ollie's origin. I love the early Island scenes as Queen loses all of his rich boy ideology to the simple principles of survival. The villains are truly awful, and as Mel Odom said in his review, the tweak on Oliver's hatred of heroin is very well done. Art wise, Jock delivers a bare, yet very detailed story. His art is almost storyboard-like and works quite well. As I am looking forward to the CW's Arrow, I was happily surprised to see the costume, primal vibe and cinematography of the island in the available previews seem to instantly echo Jock's art. So I hope to see more of Year One incorporated into the coming series. And not just in character names (Ollie's chauffeur is named John Diggle.) If Arrow borrows more than these, it will be a great live action tribute to my favorite DC hero I am rather disppointed in the nu52 Ollie and do not understand why DC did not run with the young Oliver Queen from the Year One series. This is a very smart, exciting and cinematic read.

Amazing art, cool story.
When I saw the badass cover and on it the names 'Andy Diggle & Jock' I just knew I had to get it. I don't know much about Green Arrow other than what I've seen on the show(Arrow) and all the different incarnations in the animated universe, but I enjoyed this book a lot. The art is great and so is the story which is very similar to the flashbacks in the "Arrow" but without all the extended crap that made it somewhat unberable at some points. Here Oliver has to survive on the island on his own and seeing his struggles and the way his character develops is very interesting. A very good read for 'Arrow', 'Diggle' & "Jock" fans

A great start for Green Arrow
I've read a lot of trades, but never a Green Arrow central story. My love of the character comes from the popular CW TV series, and because of it, wanted to read some of his books. I think I started in the right place! I loved this story, and coming from the show to this, I wasn't disappointed what so ever. As much as I love the flashbacks in the EARLIER seasons, I gotta say, this book takes the cake. Now, as for the quality of the book itself, it arrived it near perfect condition, with just one corner of the cover, that kinda wants to curl up. Just very slightly, but still worth pointing out. It's not bent, just wants to curl. The paper stock is great on the inside however, and the art is beautiful and consistent.

Great Read
This book for the Emerald Archer is a great read, a different origin story than what is presented in The Longbow Hunters. Personally I enjoy this origin over TLH because it gives Oliver Queen a more traumatic experience on the island he washes upon and gives him a much more purpose driven M.O. This is also the book that the new TV series on CW titled 'Arrow' is based upon. DC is about to unleash hell on marvel with their plans for the future and This along with The Dark Knight movies are the beginning

it is a cool comic w/ ok art.
in my opinion this really should be called year zero. cause he doesn't become green arrow till the very end. it is a cool comic w/ ok art. isn't my fav art but I think it fits w/ the writing. I like having an origin story for green arrow that I at least like. I was hoping to see him as green arrow more but it didn't work out that way. I was also hoping to see deathstroke in it like the TV show but I guess this one went a different direction. but its alright. if your into origin stories and like green arrow this is a good addition to your collection.

Sehr lesenswert
