For a sub-$100 clarinet, this instrument will absolutely get the job done, especially for new students or returning players picking up a woodwind after some time away. My husband plays the instrument and previously played saxophone through middle and high school at a fairly high level, and he's been genuinely impressed with how functional and playable this horn is right out of the box. Upgrades worth making early: The reeds that come with the instrument are the first thing you'll want to replace, ideally on day one. My husband upgraded the mouthpiece, reed, and ligature shortly after receiving the clarinet (Debut mouthpiece, Legere Classic 2.5 synthetic reed, and Rovner 1R Dark ligature), and the difference was significant and immediate. The stock equipment works, but these upgrades removed a lot of the resistance and inconsistency that budget accessories introduce. Also, throw away or re-purpose the white gloves immediately - he uses them to wipe up excess cork grease. Assembly tips: The pieces fit together well after applying ample cork grease. When assembling the upper and lower joints, make sure to hold the uppermost keyed tone hole on the lower joint to avoid bending the keywork; don't use excess force, just steady even pressure with a slight twisting motion. Thumb rest: Adjust the thumb rest to a comfortable position for your hand size. If you experience any discomfort during longer practice sessions, a thumb rest cushion/protector is a cheap and worthwhile addition. Similarly, a mouthpiece patch for your top teeth will protect the mouthpiece from wear, especially if you plan on putting real hours into the instrument. Cleaning: The cleaning tools included in the case are actually quite good with one exception: skip the large fluffy swab. The drop cloth swab and the mouthpiece bristle brush are your workhorses. Run the drop cloth through the mouthpiece and body sections after every playing session and use the bristle brush on the mouthpiece as needed. Setup and storage: The included bell stand is a nice touch that lets you keep the clarinet fully assembled and ready to play on a desk or the floor without taking up too much space. The case: Entirely functional. Holds the clarinet securely without damage, includes a carrying strap that attaches to the exterior loops, and the outside pocket easily fits your cleaning tools and reed case. Bottom line: For the price, this clarinet could be far worse, and it actually exceeded expectations. The keywork is functional, the ebonite body means no concerns about cracking or humidity sensitivity, and with a few modest upgrades to the mouthpiece and reed it becomes a genuinely enjoyable instrument to play. If you're a returning wind player or a beginner with a patient approach, this is a solid starting point that won't hold you back.

My daughter loves her purple clarinet. Thank you for such a good product. I’m sure there’s more expensive ones more quality ones but for a beginner if you’re trying to teach your kids to learn this is a great beginning tool I recommended highly

First of all, it's difficult to rate this "instrument" in terms of stars. I'm an experienced clarinetist and rate it 4 stars because it is an exceptional value, and an experienced clarinetist will be able to play this well and will also appreciate the price point. I understand the logic for a beginner who wants to try out a cheap instrument to see if they'll like learning it, but honestly, this instrument is probably too difficult for a beginner to play. An experienced player will know how to make adjustments to embouchure and instrument care in order to get it to play well. If you play another wind instrument and are considering this one, keep this in mind. So this review is for the experienced player, and this clarinet is well suited for its purpose. The instrument does play in tune. You must use the proper barrel that it comes with. Use the shorter barrel for B-flat and the longer one for A. Be prepared to use all the cork grease and more the first time you assemble the instrument. All new clarinets require this, but this one especially. You'll have to grease, insert a bit, take it out, grease some more, reinsert, etc... until all the joints are flush. You will have to use pressure, but don't force it. Forget the included reeds. You can use Rico Royals or better for a major difference in tone and playability. Reeds above 2.5 don't work well with the included mouthpiece. You can use your own mouthpiece of course, and this will make the instrument sound demonstrably better, but then you won't have a cool colored mouthpiece (unless you opted for the black model in which case this is be a good option.) I bought the pink model and will keep the pink mouthpiece because it looks cool, and it plays well enough. As someone mentioned in a previous review, the instrumental does get easier to play the more it is used. It needs about a five minute warm-up every time it is played before it starts to become reasonably playable. Be patient with this. I am calling this a bona-fide instrument because it does actually play music and you can pretty much include yourself as a clarinetist in most situations. You'll have to apply some extra effort to obtain a respectable tone, but if you already play, you'll be able to do this. Again, using your own mouthpiece and reeds will greatly improve this instrument if the color is not an issue for you. We bought this instrument and other similar colorful instruments to create a fun colorful ensemble. It's a lot of fun.

I have no complaints about this clarinet. It sounds good and plays well. The quality is good. The stock mouthpiece gets the job done. Very happy with this clarinet.

Our son decided to try the clarinet for his school band, and I did not want to invest in something expensive in case he lost interest. We needed something beginner friendly, and this turned out to be the right choice. He was able to put it together and take it apart on his own, which was great. It is not too heavy or too long for a 10 year old, making it comfortable for him to hold and practice with. Since he is just learning, it is hard to judge the sound quality in depth, but he enjoys playing it and is excited about learning new songs. That alone makes this a win for us. I would definitely recommend this clarinet for beginners who want to give it a try. It is easy to use, beginner appropriate, and affordable without breaking the bank.

When I first got it I really liked the packaging and what it came with it was wrapped nicely but that doesn’t mean that it plays nicely when I first put it together it was very hard and stiff, and I felt like it was gonna break when I started playing it was even worse I couldn’t do a simple G or f it was starting to irritate me so I put it away for the next day now this product came with white gloves that you could wear and I didn’t know what they were meant for so I didn’t play with them the first time the next day, I decided to play with them again, because I wanted to give it a second chance this time I wore the gloves and although the gloves made it a tiny bit better I still couldn’t play certain notes and it was very ridiculous that I had to wear gloves to play the clarinet so I put it away and the next day I started playing again, and it was much better. I was not wearing the gloves this time , but after a couple of minutes of playing, it came very hard so I put it away I I brought it back out when it was my father’s birthday. I was planning to play the happy birthday song to him until I couldn’t play a single note even if I was able to play one, it would sound like a child’s Deas , although I looked at the reviews and even though they were not that good, I decided to give it a shot. The worst mistake I’ve ever made. Do not buy this. It’s very bad and messed up. Please listen to me I think I speak for everyone when I say this is garbage, even if it isn’t bad, at first, it will be eventually I promise

Background: I am a trained classical guitarist and intermediate flutist. I have recently decided to take up clarinet, and wanted a cheaper instrument to see if this worked for me. The good: For an affordable price, you get all you need to play. The instrument fit and look is OK. It includes an usable stand and corck grease. In my example all pads sealed well. However, there are some caveats. The meh: Some keys were slightly higher than other, which is not a big deal to adjust, but I think it's worth mentioning. The gloves are useless, wish they had used that money for some better QC maybe. The bad: OK there are 2 things that almost break the whole instrument and could be easily fixed. First the reeds, they "work" but are very inconsistent, which can be frustrating. Seriously, just include 1 good reeed instead of these 10 mediocre ones and this would be a much better value. Second, and perhaps the worst offender is the stock mouthpiece is a piece of trash, extremely hard to use and not consistent at all to the point of being frustrated. As soon as I put on a Debut mouthpiece my whole experience improved 10 fold, much easier to play and way better tone. In conclusion: I believe that, for the price, this is a good beginner instrument, everything plays out of the box with no serious keyword issues , but you need to spend some extra cash in a better reed and mouthpiece.

This is my 2nd attempt at finding a good Bb clarinet, at a reasonable price, as I am new to clarinet and didn’t want to extend myself by spending too much $$$. I did purchase a more expensive one, that I found difficult to play. This Glory GLY-PBK is brilliant. It plays smoothly, has a very good tone, excellent seal, and figment. The only thing I changed out was getting a better mouth piece and reed (2.0). An excellent purchase for me. The few accessories it doesn’t come with, is a neck strap, mouth piece bite guard, and 2.0 reeds. It’s an entry level buy, but I like how easy it is to play from the start. Cheers

This is really nice craftsmanship when the thing goes greased together and the keys is more forgiving though takes more energy. Than flute. Though a good doodle of notes taking and just freestyle the keys pracrice to song produced in sway, when keys aren't known though can play them and baphoon blasts like saxaphone playing wrong reed to deep.. needs rest between then and too much playing everyday spanks can result in being useless in chores of music. Though abit just getting the tone and doing necessary rest to occassionally be better every result of play abit and rest after too many squeeks. 3 days to a week off pays off for the big day play record day..

As background, I have a good background with clarinet (was first chair clarinet in a youth symphony in Detroit MANY, MANY years ago). So I know the instrument well enough to give what I feel is a useful review. I already have a professional clarinet of a different brand that I've had for years. This was a purchase that I made as a gift for my wife. She used to play and wanted to get into playing again. I will quickly discuss all the things I'm not going to concern myself with, and the few "negatives" I had with the instrument. But just realize that in spite of these things, I'm still giving it a 4 out or 5 star rating. That should tell you something. There are a lot of goodies that came in the box. White gloves (which seem useless on a clarinet) were a cute touch but they were set aside as they won't be used. The clarinet came with a packet of 10 reeds and at first glance, they look like they might be perfectly acceptable, but just haven't checked them out. Cleaning brushes, swab, cork grease.... even a clarinet stand which is perfectly adequate. Anything you would need, you'll get in the box, and then some. The biggest "negative" was the mouthpiece setup. (More specifically, the ligature/cap setup, as we didn't actually try the mouthpiece. I've read in some other reviews here that it is terrible, and I can't say, but it's not why I'm writing the review. But having played other mouthpieces that come with basic instruments, if you're getting this for a beginner, do him or her a favor and at least buy them a Yamaha 4C to go with it, so you'll know the mouthpiece isn't going to be a problem.) Anyway, the ligature looked like a train wreck - cranked on really tight with one screw to the point where the ligature looked a little "bent." But she set that aside, and we tried this thing with the mouthpiece she had been used to using on the one I have. The clarinet assembled nicely, and with a small (proper) amount of cork grease, the thing went together perfectly. The mouthpiece she was using fit nicely in the barrel on this - in other words, the bore was standard size. No complaints. The keywork felt different than what I was used to, but this is a subjective thing, and beyond a point, it's preference and/or what you're used to, so no negative marks here. I did find the key rings sat a little high relative to the tone holes but again, it's a subjective thing and not a big deal. The keywork is crisp and clean. NO LEAKS, which is awesome. The thing that STUNNED ME was the tone and response out of this thing. Seriously. For the price, it was stellar. I've played "student model" clarinets from famous makers that didn't play as well. My wife got a sound first thing out of it that she never even got with my clarinet. She said, "do you want to try it?" I did. It was seriously playable. I would say there are many instruments for 3 or 4 times the price that wouldn't give you the value for the money you get with this thing for the price. If you get one, spend some extra money and get a good mouthpiece right off the get-go. This one might be ok, but starting with a better one as a baseline for a beginner will eliminate a bad mouthpiece setup from troubleshooting. But yeah! This thing is really good. And for the price, it's seriously a ROCK STAR!!

Good for the price but it’s not wood, right? Just an imitation. But that’s what you pay for. For the dollar, it’s great! Just what I wanted. But if you’re looking for the perfectly authentic sound, don’t buy this.
