Not really a book about Edison
This is NOT a book with a story about Edison. I was expecting a parallel story of Edison working on his inventions through the main story of a little mouse and his perspective. What I received was much better. It's an adventure tale of a little mouse who seeks the help of an older professor mouse to retrieve a treasure belonging to one of his mouse ancestors. The little mouse (Pete) and the professor find that the treasure is underwater (In the Titanic no less!) and they have to figure out a way to get down there. It takes the reader through the process of what an inventor might go through: failure, failure until final success and all the risk involved with actual inventing. So readers get more the experience of what Edison did rather than who he was. It's a fun adventure that weaves fiction and non fiction historical events in a fun and engaging way that will make kids want to learn more about history and it's prominent figures. They may want to learn more about mice as well. In the end Pete finds the treasure and that is how Edison is introduced into the story. On the very last page. After the story concludes the book goes on to give great historical information specific to Edison and the lightbulb and the wonderful illustrations (not of mice but of the men) are on these pages as well. Fantastic book!
