Um.. by flimsy would animals like opossoms cats and such could break it??

We've been using this for years and no, cats and opossums can't get in unless you don't secure it. Neither will chew or break through it. We like this size because of how high it is.

Would this, with fence posts/bamboo stakes, work to fence in the area from our house to the existing fence line to contain our 2 small dogs?

Depends on how determined your dogs are, how small they are (or aren't), how well they jump and climb, and how well you stake the chickenwire. The biggest problem with it is that if it's not staked well, the fence sections between the stakes can be stretched and bent down. I lost my broccoli to the local woodchuck because my stakes were too far apart.

I need zip ties to secure this to my picket fence....what would you recommend?

Staple gun would be best. I couldn't find mine, so I used a combination of zip ties, that I ordered at the same time, and a spool of wire that I had to cut and tie.
