Software is a bit cluncky. Older models were better.
I first had the HD model of the same camera and liked it for the ability to upload to a custom FTP, taking storage into personal cloud. Got 4K version, and some things were buggy. Nevermind the fact that USB-C unplugs if you wiggle it a little. Clearly a bad connection somewhere. When initialized, the camera sometimes does not return to the home position. It'll be off vertically, often significantly. Software could take a lesson from Blink cameras, because the simplest functions like arming and disarming (putting to sleep mode) should be 2 clicks away. There should be ability to review internal footage without having to turn the camera on. In top of physical quality and features, the camera is top notch, but the software must've been written by monkeys.

Great picture and quality
Very easy to hookup and has a excellent picture. Very happy with this purchase. Work's great if you have to use a 5g router. This was the only reason i got it. Was to replace a older one that could not pair up to the new router. Update - 1/2021. The camera stopped working a few months back. Keep letting me know thee was a update needed. Never could get the update to take, always failed. The web sight was no help. wanted you do download to a zip file, etc then do a micro sd card, etc. UGH. finally figured out to hard wire it up to my router and then after it paired up used the app on my phone for the software update. BINGO it worked like it should. Magic

Decent camera - we like that it has FTP.
The camera so far is working well. It would be nice if it had color night vision, but the clarity is good. The ability to do FTP of files to our remote server is a huge plus, and most indoor wifi cameras don't have this feature. It is one of the main reasons we bought the camera. It's also nice that it can use the 5Ghz band in addition to the 2.4. Set up was pretty easy - we had to do an override by using the VMS computer application to use 'admin' as a user name because the phone app won't allow it. Also it is strange they only allow 12 characters for a password, which is incredibly short. All in all it is working well for us so far.

Inexpensive feature-rich cameras with A1 support.
I have been a big fan of Foscam cameras for many years and own a variety of their pan/tilt, pan/tilt/zoom, and fixed cameras. One of the most attractive aspects beyond the rich set of features is that there is no necessity to maintain a subscription. Buy the camera, an SD Card if you want to save videos, and you can monitor the camera and recordings from anywhere using your cellphone or the Foscam VMS app. For all the features these cameras are robust and generally trouble-free once you have the WiFi to the more remote parts of your home established. And, the remote parts are likely where you will have the outdoor cameras. One of the bzillion configuration options available if you need it is to be able to adapt the bandwidth of video stream to suit the environment though. I like that a lot. I did have a couple of failures over the last 10-12 years (of maybe 16 cameras established for relatives and friends). One was a failed plug-top USB power supply after a nearby lightning strike interrupted power to my home and was easily replaced with an old phone charger; another was also after a power interruption and the camera would boot but would not send video. In that last case I reached out to Foscam support even though the camera was out of Warranty and they were just wonderful. Nora Chau got back to me within hours with useful suggestions and provided me with recovery firmware. That was ultimately unsuccessful but along the was she set up a Zoom with a support engineer and we worked through some diagnostics together. This for an out-of-warranty camera remember. That Foscam would invest so much effort on me tells me two things. 1. They stand behind their products and go the distance to make their customers happy. 2. The cameras must be reliable because they have time to deal with a single failure and want to understand what happened. Strongly recommended. Delighted with their support. Nora Chau went well beyond my expectations to represent Foscam in a very professional manner. - Frank

Must use lousy Foscam app; hit and miss motion detection
I've had several wi-fi, plug-in Foscam cameras over the years and they worked pretty well while this one is just so-so. As far as picture quality, they all are pretty good. My older cameras allow much more precise motion detection areas; this one allows only 3 rectangular areas. This one does okay with detecting motion in the middle 50% of the view but mostly misses motion in the outer 50%. I have this camera pointing towards my driveway and it does not detect motion until someone/something is already halfway up the 90-foot drive. My older cameras can store up to 5 seconds preceding the motion detection; this one allows only 2 seconds, and since it misses a lot of motion around the edges, 5 seconds would be better. Whereas my older cameras required a download to open with Internet Explorer, this one requires use of the Foscam app...and the app is pretty horribly designed but it does work. At whatever size you open the app window, only about half of it will show your camera views; the rest is taken up by over-sized controls. Also, the alarm sound is *really* annoying, tinny, and loud and cannot be modified in-app. Worst of all, the app uses much more system resources than it needs to and it constantly pops up messages saying "usage is too high". I never get these messages with the older cameras. Even running at 720p/10 fps seems to generate these messages. Viewing recordings is simple for the older cameras but this one requires more clicks to navigate to recordings. My older cameras all have zoom; this one does not (and I couldn't find another Foscam that does.) Many other brands have zoom but I want all my cameras to be the same brand so I can view all of them in the same app window on my PC since I use live view a lot. Amcrest used to sell Foscam but now they are their own brand and their cameras will not work in the Foscam app. Bottom line: I hoped for a better camera but got less than what I already have, but I needed another camera and bought what I could get.
