can you connect the wire to the camera with this mount or it has to stay on battery only ?

The mount left room for me but mine is mounted on a brick wall and I ran the wires along the mortar line, which doesn't stick out even with the bricks, behind the mount. I believe that there is room to get the wires between the doorbell and the mount but the wires would then be running over the front side of the mount and would be visible. I hope this helps.

Does this include a metal baseplate as shown in the picture or do we have to have the one that came with the doorbell originally?

It does not come with one, it works directly with the metal plate provided with the Nest.
