Orthopedic Physical Examination Tests: An Evidence-Based Approach: 9780132544788: Medicine & Health Science Books @ desertcart.com Review: Very Helpful and Easy to Understand - Ordered New-Paperback. Excellent condition, came in way faster than I anticipated. Product is exactly as description tells. I am in a Physical Therapy Assistant program, and I got this textbook for my Orthopedic Management class. It gives detailed outlines of special tests for specific joints and pathologies. Each examination test has a picture along with a very easy to read utility score chart that contains different evidence-based studies with their reliability, specificity, sensitivity, positive & negative likelihood ratios (LR+/LR-), and QUADAS scores. Chapters cover: diagnostic accuracy, neurological testing & screening, medical screening, Physical exam tests for: cervical spine, temporomandibular joint, shoulder complex, elbow & forearm, wrist & hand, thoracic spine, lumbar spine, sacroiliac joint & pelvis, hip, knee, & lower leg, ankle, & foot 550 pages total Well written and super helpful. Review: Critical resource for the orthopedic physical therapy shelf. - This book is designed as a reference tool assimilating current research supporting or negating physical examination tests commonly used during the examination/evaluation process. This book not only lists the examination, but utilizes the QUADAS tool to assess the bias inherent within the research of these diagnostic tests. After using this book as a reference tool in my orthopedic residency, it became more clear to me why special tests have limited value in the diagnostic process without considering the whole person and the unique presentation of the individual. This is not a textbook for "evaluation" in the context of the whole person but serves it's role as a reference tool very well.

Great book
This book gets straight to the point and pours over numerous conditions and what examination or cluster of examination techniques have been proven to test what they are supposed to test. Many of the best evidence based examination tests shown in this book unfortunately are probably hardly ever used. I look forward to using this book from now on.

Every test imaginable!
This has everything you could possible want to know when it comes to manual testing. It has tests, directions, pictures, and even the efficacy of the tests. Get this as a companion to the Orthopedic Manual Therapy book also by Cook.

Superb
Incredible wealth of practical information for ortho surgeons, PA's and physical therapists. Why waste time doing exam tests that have low sensitivity/specificity when one test (for example, the median nerve pressure provocation test) is very highly reliable? GET THIS BOOK!

I was a little disappointed with the book because most of the featured special test were low in reliability or validity. Although it was good that it reflects which assessment are good to use for accurate results. I hope it will also include a more updated sets of tests recommended fr best practice.

As a physiotherapy student, I found this book very useful - especially when trying to find the tests with the best evidence - as sens, spec, and likelihood ratios are posted for every test. Gives clear descriptions of how to do each test. Would recommend.
