Toddleroo Easy Swing & Lock Baby Gate for Top of Stairs: 31" Tall, Bronze

I normally dont write reviews but this gate deserves one. Let me describe what I didn't want. I didn't want a gate that just opened in the middle and you had to walk through a narrower passage. I wanted the entire gate to swing open. Im a big guy and didn't want something I can potentially hit the sides as I'm walking through causing it to fall or damage the product or worse damaging my walls. Also, I didn't want a gate that had a bottom that was planted on the floor that can potentially be a trip hazard or something I could stub my toes on. A No bottom gate would allow me to sweep and mop the floor without an obstruction in the way as well. I also didn't want a flimsy gate. I wanted something sturdy and something I could drill into my wood banisters because I wanted something more permanent and not temporary. A gate that can stand the test of time. I can always patch the holes and paint over it anyways. I also didn't want a gate that was complicated on opening and closing. I hate the ones where you have to lift up something to access a button you press and than pull and lift up smh. There's gates that are so complicated. I needed simplicity on opening a gate. Even though this gate is simple to open, my teenage daughter couldnt figure out how to open it at first lol so it is baby proof but still easier than most. I didn't get this gate for a baby though I got this for my 2 dogs that I don't want upstairs on my brand new carpet. This gate checked all the boxes for me and I couldn't be happier. Some people had problems installing this but I thought it was pretty simple for me but maybe because im pretty handy with tools. I'd highly recommend using a drill and predrilling the holes to make it easier to put in the screws. They are long wood screws and screwing in these by hand without predrilling would be pretty difficult. Just a side note...if you have toddlers you want to keep from going down the stairs or protect them from falling down the stairs, I would highly recommend this gate for the top of the stairs mainly because on how sturdy this is and how there is no bottom to trip on. The design looks great and the best part after all that is it's super affordable. There's tons of gates that were seventy five bucks or more. I couldnt imagine spending over a hundred bucks for one when this one exist. 5 stars!

Great gate. Originally I had bought a temporary plastic gate that didn't require screwing in, however I quickly found out that was not a good solution so I ended up wasting money and threw it away. Then I bought this gate, installation was easy, the gate is tall and there are no horizontal bars for my toddler to climb on top of. I wish I would have gotten this gate earlier. The only negative about this gate was during installation they provided a mounting template. Unfortunately because of the way they folded it up it is very easy to have one side slightly higher or lower when you unfold the template and tape it to a wall. Well everything worked out fine for me, because one side was slightly higher on the template opening the gate is a little bit harder than it is supposed to be, but still not difficult. Overall I would buy this gate again

Absolutely love this gate! We got tired of the old gate we were using that had a cut out in the middle easily. You could trip over it. It wasn’t wide enough to completely walk through it properly so I went ahead and purchased this gate when it arrived, my son thought it was too short for the opening between our kitchen and our living room. Then he realized once you took off a few pieces, you can extend the gate to fit your door with then you put the pieces back on screw it back together a top bracket and another bracket, and it allowed for the gate to be extended to fit the area in which we need to cover. Love that you can just easily open the gate and walk right through it without tripping it swings open Ford and backwards, giving you plenty of room to get in and out of the area and which you are coming from and going to! We actually bought this baby gate to make sure our Chihuahuas didn’t get into the kitchen and out the front door when going in and out of our front door because we live on a busy street! Super easy to install and love that you have to push a little area before you can open the gate! Highly recommend the gate to everyone! This is my second purchase and I don’t regret anything

I rarely write reviews but I wanted to help anyone who is being victimized by a 10lb feline. We have always used gates because we have pets. With the arrival of our baby it was time to find a permanent solution that was safe for everyone instead of our jerry rigged pet gates. This gate is off white but coordinates will with our home. Not the prettiest set up but most baby gates and child proofing isn't. Overall I would recommend this baby gate as it is easily adapted to most problems, affordable, can swing both directions, no trip hazards, sturdy, and simple to operate. Read below for specifics. How to install without drilling into banister: We did not want to drill into our banister as we will one day be pet free and our LO will be old enough to safely walk around our home. We purchased the qdos stair mounting kit, linked below. Our banister was 39" tall so we had to purchase our own piece of wood that we sanded, primed and painted white to mount the gate to. Highly recommend, it is very sturdy and holding all the weight of this gate securely. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078J58RXP?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details Solution for no studs in mounting location: On the opposite side of our banister we did not have studs in the right location to attach the gate. You should not mount this into drywall alone, this gate is very heavy. We considered using drywall anchors but ultimately I didn't trust it. Our gate is in a high traffic area and will be opened and closed daily. We found the stud closest to where we wanted to mount the gate and screwed a piece of wood into it. We then mounted the gate on top of that piece of wood. I am planning on painting the wood the color the wall to blend better. See pictures for visual. It is very secure now! Read if you have cats!!!: No legitimate stair gate has worked in our home because they all have either large gaps on the bottom and or large gaps between the bars our 10lb cat could wiggle through. I hate gates that have a threshold at the bottom especially for stairs because they are trip hazard. What makes this gate great is you can mount it at any distance to the floor, just cut the excess off the bottom of the template. Admittedly, I wish I mounted ours a little closer to the ground (2" gap above floor). My cat has been poking her head underneath but she can't get through. Time will tell if I have to move it closer to the ground. The bars have a ~2 3/8" gap, she hasn't been able to fit through those either. Again, time will tell lol. There is a middle dashed line and the mounts are off center from those. When placing the other template on opposite wall, line up the dashed lines and the gate will be centered correctly. I realized after setting up that the gate is two pieces that are off centered so that is why the mounts are off centered from the dashed line but will align properly if you line up the dashes. As long as your template is the same distance from the floor on both sides everything works perfectly and the template is fool proof!

After doing a lot of research, I settled on this baby gate for the top of our stairs. We live in a two bedroom apartment with stairs inside that lead to our living space, so we needed a quality gate as we have two young children. The installation was a breeze following the instructions provided and utilizing a stud finder. Not only does it look nice, but after having the gate for a couples months I can say I am satisfied with this purchase. The gate is sturdy, quick to unlock while still preventing little hands from escaping. The width is perfect with our stairway as it’s easily adjustable, and the dimensions matched the description well.

This has been our favorite baby gate by far it has an easy one-hand opening feature, but is challenging for toddlers. I do wish it auto closed, but all the other features make up for it. You can set it up to swing whichever way you want, it's easy for an adult to take on and off the wall if you need to move it out of the way (so not retractable, but removable and easy to pop on and off as needed). It's also width adjustable to fit your opening. My favorite feature though, is that it has no trip bar at the bottom - which is needed if it's at the top of the stairs, and definitely a nice feature to have anywhere else. It's been very high quality and feels very stable. We have one that's still going strong after 3 years. We've also bought others in that time. I will never buy a different baby gate again!

We have had many baby gates and this one is our favorite. It swings freely both ways and closes one handed with a flick of the wrist. Installation is fairly easy. Would buy again.

I have this gate at my front door. It took my customers a little bit to figure out how to hit the button and lift, but it really looks nice and let's my dog watch the world go by. We also get a nice summer breeze with the door open. It was adjustable and after a few tweaks it opens and closes smoothly and is perfectly level. I think the color is perfect: not black but still blends in with the decor. I like it. The dog agrees.
