THE WAVES OF WAR

This series about small warships; E Boats, MTB Hunt Class, and other destroyers, in the English Channel and its environs during WW2 continues nicely.

Fun to read, interesting character development, the book held my attention throughout. The author was able to create vivid, compelling, and apparently realistic, accounts of what life aboard a Hunt Class destroyer escort would consist of during the initial phases of World War Two. The battle scenes were riveting. I’d recommend this book to anyone with an interest in the sea.

This story of adventure on the high seas has been told many times. Mr. Perry has gifted us with a new way of telling the story. I found the telling of the story to be very entertaining. Now, on to round two!

This ia a very exciting and fast read book. It grips the readers attention right from the start to the finish. It shows the individual personalities of both sides of the war.

Well written and exciting to read. You always know the hero will win, but how, makes reading exciting. Although fiction, true to the brave English men who faced up to the German war machine in the early days of WW2.

All in all, it is a very good read. I did have trouble orienting the ships in action sequences. I would have appreciated some diagrams showing the relationship and movements of the vessels. Another big help would have been a diagram of a Hunt Class ship. The picture on the front cover was a help.

One always has to suspend belief when one reads fiction but the story line was excellent and the characters well drawn. I will certainly read his other books. Well done Graham Parry.

I have recently read a good number of novels about the Royal Navy. This series is among the very best. Technically sound and fast moving story line. Well developed characters.

The author is clearly talented but the story line was very poor and at times unbelievable. 1) the Navy would never have used two destroyers for this sort of operation, they would have used MGB's (quieter at slow speed and much faster when needed). 2) A senior Admiral would never have accompanied the operation and would certainly never, ever have gone ashore. 3) Hunt Destroyers were small escort vessels and only lightly armed, as this was early in the war the vessel would have been a type I, possibly a type II, they were even more lightly armed than later types. 4) why would a heavily damaged vessel with many wounded crew and important people on board have bypassed Portmouth to spend all that extra time at sea to be in danger of air or E-boat attacks, it would never have happened. As I say a potentially good author but an appalling story line.

Two late relatives served in destroyers in WW2 so it is enthralling to discover the sort of experiences they would have had - they never talked about them. The technical detail of battles is fascinating - as another reviewer commented - and the descriptions of the sea seem very realistic; no wonder being on or close to the sea is so addictive. The loss and suffering of those mentioned brings home the courage shown by all who served.

Of the series, if the remaining three are half as good I will be content.Well written story that rips along at a good pace, good characters all in all a good read.Recommended

Have enjoyed the book it was a good read at a fair price,the story was good paced read with a fair plot to it,

I have read all of Douglas Reeman's books and this is of the same ilk. Loved it. Only grouse is that there are at least four typos in the book for example prey instead of pray, wining instead of winning. It is printed by Amazon so perhaps they should have picked it up.I hope that there are going to be more by the author, and less errors by the proof reader
