After spending far too much on pretty much every espresso accessory under the sun, I decided to try out a puck screen. It's by far the biggest improvement I've seen from any accessory, and pretty much eliminates any noticeable channelling! Fits perfectly with the 54mm IMS precision baskets.

This screen is beautifully machined. Nice and thick for when you need to make up space between the group head and your coffee and you want to assist with your extraction. The water flows through the mesh easily. The extraction is uniform and consistent. As part of your dial in, you'll get great flavour. The puck screen washes clean with a little rinse under the warm tap. I've used it for over a hundred pours now and there's no discoloration, the text hasn't faded and it's holding up very well. It's expensive. For that, you get a beautifully machined bit of steel. Every part of the mesh is well crafted. The rim has also been sanded clean so there's no sharpness around the edges. It's an excellent fit for my portafilters. It loses a star for not being magnetic. On the rare occasion when dialing in, for example, if it sits high it can stick to the group head on release and the water tension makes it difficult to remove. Being magnetic would assist with such cases. I'm very happy with this as part of my workflow.

Value for money: I bought this as a protection for my coffee machine, I was fining that there was coffee grains going up into my machine. Since using this isn't a problem anymore so hoping this increases the longevity of the machine. Also notable that it has better dispersed the water around the coffer puck, so I have been getting better shots of coffee.

Bought to keep the shower screen clean and also enables a better dispersion of water over the puck. Also gives a dry puck when cleaning the portafilter. Just make sure that you leave some headspace between it and the espresso machine shower screen for puck expansion. I test this by using the 'razor' that came with my Sage machine after I place the puck screen on top of the puck. Thoroughly recommended.

My safe coffee machine used to always have coffee grounds above the portafilter but since using this screen puck it’s stopped. The coffee tastes just as good but seems to pour more even.

La mampara ayuda mucho a que no se queden restos de café fino en la regadera de la máquina, esto ayuda a que la limpieza con tabletas sea más espaciada. En cuanto a los resultados con la extracción, noté que se eleva la temperatura 1 o 2 grados C, por lo que es buena idea colocar el porta filtro y de inmediato comenzar la extracción para evitar transferir calor innecesario al café. Si distribuye mejor el agua y no aumenta la presión. La utilizo en una Breville BES870XL.

I got this puck filter as it was recommended to buy one from youtube espresso gizmos. Not this specific brand but just a puck filter. I have the normcore funnel portafiler and portafilter. I thought I'd keep everything consistent Overall: i still get channelling (probably has to do with my puck prep), but I definitley think it helps distributes the water better AND it prevents back wash of the coffee grind into the machine which I value. I've had great espresso pulls with this filter

The Normcore 53.3mm Puck Screen is a simple, cost-effective upgrade that’s been well worth adding to my espresso routine. It fits perfectly in both of my 54mm portafilters — the stock Breville portafilter and my LILQ bottomless portafilter — with no fuss. In use, I do think it helps reduce channeling a bit, but the biggest benefit by far is keeping the shower screen clean. Cleanup is easier, and maintenance feels more controlled overall. Build quality is solid, and it sits flat on the puck without shifting. One thing to note is that it doesn’t work with a magnet, which isn’t a dealbreaker but worth knowing if you’re used to using a magnet to remove your screen. Overall, this is an easy recommendation if you want a small, inexpensive improvement that helps protect your machine and tidy up your workflow.
