Dorman 604-288 HVAC Blend Door Actuator for Select Ford/Lincoln Models

Replaced on 2016 Ford F150 XLT. Originally I could not control which vent air would blow. Now it works perfectly! Took about 30 minutes to replace.

I have a 2016 Ford F-150 XLT Crew Cab FX4. My HVAC was stuck at blowing below the dashboard. On a hot day, air conditioning just doesn't feel like it is working if it is diffusely distributed at the ankle to shin level. I followed a few different people's advice about removing some trim. I don't think ANY of the removed trim made the job any easier. The removed trim required both a 7mm (metric) and a 5/16" (SAE) socket. The device is held in by two T20 Torx-bit screws. One of the screws could be seen if I could maneuver my head in just the right spot and I could use a powered socket wrench with a T20 bit to remove it. The other screw was completely not able to be viewed; it could only be felt. It took a bit to get the T20 socket placed on it but it was impossible to get the socket placed with any type of tool attached to twist it because I had less than 1/4" between it and an unmovable steel support. Thankfully, I was able to turn the socket with my fingers, as it had not been torqued down so tight that leverage was required to unscrew. It took a bit to feel around to see that this new part was sitting in the proper position. I eventually saw that the visible screw location and the new part seemed to line up. I put that screw in and then tied the other. There is no room for more than 1 hand in the space and my fingers had to play gymnastics to get the screw in the proper hole and get the T20 socket to fit into its hole. I gave it a twist or two before the socket slipped out of my hands and deep into the dash where I could never find. I DID have a "Swiss Army" style Torx wrench, where you could flip out just the size Torx bit you want. Each of these Torx bits are a bit long for the space available but while not fully seated in the T20 hole, I was able to turn the screw about a quarter of a turn at a time between readjusting the position of the tool. It took several minutes of this hand gymnastics before I felt the screw was as secure as it would be. I tested the HVAC system and thankfully everything worked as it should now. I was able to replace all the trim using both metric and SAE tools. I am done and hopefully will never have to do that ever again. At least this part wasn't expensive.

Bought and installed Feb 2026 on 2015 F-150. Fit and worked correctly - till today. Now its dead and stuck in one vent position. Will go back with OEM. This is a work week daily driver. Ridiculous its failed after 4 months

My neighbor's Ford F150 Truck had air that was stuck in the dash. You could hear the air trying to get out the vents. Once you remove the old operator you can insert a tool that is supplied to manually move the blend doors. Since the operator is keyed and fits only one way you can clock the doors to agree with the operator. It seems backwards and it is! Once inserted the operator is easily attached with a few screws, a molex control plug and you're done. Works great and the neighbor is happy.
