Best device for keeping you and your family safe from carbon monoxide leaks in the house
Must have been 10 years, almost to the day, that my old First Alert detector started beeping. Yeah, these last a long time on their internal power supply. I didn't shop for any other brand/model since the first one did such a good job of keeping us safe for so long. Instructions are provided and very thorough, so you'll be setting this up very quickly. The location was kept the same as the older model and was originally chosen from the list of recommended places by the manufacturer.

Reliable
Installed this in May 2017 and here it is July 2026 stilling running strong and silent. Unobtrusive unit, and the temperature readout has been handy to have in the location where we installed it. When it eventually signals EOL I will buy it again.

Highly Recommend for Frequent Travelers
I purchased this carbon monoxide detector when I started traveling frequently to central America where they are less likely to have them in hotels and vacation rentals. A few scary news articles convinced me this would be worth bringing along and I have to say, it provides great peace of mind. I bring it on every trip now and it takes up very little space. I always travel carry-on only and feel it has earned it's spot in my suitcase. I've been using it for several years now and it continues to work perfectly on the initial battery I installed, haven't had to replace it yet. Great value for the money.

Compact CO detector, self contained with 10 year permanent battery; does not sound false alarms from ham radio signals :)
I got two of these to replace detectors in my home and I wall-mounted them (optional). I got these because I'm a ham radio operator and my old downstairs detector (Kidde Nighthawk) kept going off whenever I transmitted on the 40 meter band. After doing some online research I learned that this model is not susceptible to this. It turned out I needed to replace my old detector anyway since it was made in 2000 and they are only good for 10 years! (I also have read that Kidde did not improve their design to prevent false alarms from radio signals until 2004.) It is battery operated only-no AC power connection. Anyway, these are compact and easy to install. Note: there is not a separate template for drilling the wall mount holes-it is printed at the bottom of the instruction sheet. My only beef with these new ones is that one of them was missing the mounting hardware in the package, so I had to get screws and anchors for that one on my own. There is a small switch on the back to turn the unit on and there is a separate one-time use switch for deactivating the unit once it's service life is up. It also has a blue backlight to view the display in the dark, and it routinely displays the room temperature on the screen. One button on the top of the unit is used for turning on the backlight; if you press and hold, it sounds the alarm to test the unit.

Accurate thermometer - just takes a while.
A lot of people were complaining about the thermometer feature on this thing being inaccurate. It was certainly higher than it should’ve been when I first unboxed it, but sitting in my room for a day it’s now showing the exact same temperature as my thermostat. Not an instant read thermometer by any means, I put it above a stove and it took at least 30-40 seconds to climb up just one degree. But from my experience it’s certainly accurate enough. Oh yeah, and it’s probably a great CO detector too. Plenty loud for sure.
