NOTICE: The disk has English audio and subtitles. Hoping to alter the events of the past, a 19th century inventor instead travels 800,000 years into the future, where he finds humankind divided into two warring races. Review: Great Remake - I've watched this version many many times and it remains one of my favourites. As a fan of the original 1960 version also it is easy to compare the two and yes it is a loose remake but in my opinion it should be judged on its own merit. Many reviews have mentioned plot holes and while there are a few they don't detract from it being a wonderful little film. The main cast are great with Hollywood A lister Guy Pearce as the brilliant but heartbroken Professor Alexander Hartdegan and Sienna Guillory as the love of his life Emma. Phyllida Law, Mark Addy, Jeremy Irons, Samantha Mumba and Orlando Jones also star with a cameo from Alan Young from the original version. The special effects are a massive update on the 1960 film and with stunning scenery and a beautiful soundtrack by Klaus Badelt this is a wonderful and thought provoking little movie Review: Great timetraveling movie and a wonderous experience you will have watching - A great movie with guy pearce with such great acting in it. A great scifi time travel movie and a great cinematic masterpiece as well. Great for people who love great scifi movies and amazing movies overall you should watch if youve never watched before its amazing.favourite bit is how intricate the storytelling is and how wonderfull machine it is watch this now if not your missing out. Plus the case is very unique.

You know its yankee so don't expect classical
Like so many others - (as the number of second hand copies at 40 pence indicated) - I was mortified when I watched this film for the first time. The original is one of my favorite films of all time - so this really was on a hiding to nothing. I put the DVD away and didnt watch it again for a long time. The second time I viewed it sometime much later, I was more open to fairly rate it as an okay film based loosely on HG wells novel. Don't forget the 1960 version isnt exactly the same as the novel. The special effects are better, more of a plot prior to his time travelling, samantha mumba looks good and there is more action. Bad points are cheesy acting from many of the supporting cast and the pitiful extra role for alan young (the original philby). Both versions of the film rapidly progress to the distant future and miss the opportunity to address senarios in the near future - How I wish for a pre/sequel. The 1960 DVD version contains an extra scene which involves the inventor and philby on his second return, this 2002 version abruptly ends fullstop. If you haven't seen the original nor read the book, well worth 40 pence.

A good, entertaining Film
DVD arrived from Amazon on the due date at my local click and collect collection centre in mint A1 condition. Great innovation Amazon, keep up the good work! This is an interesting film which grows on you after time. This 2002 version is more faithful to the spirit of the original H.G. Wells text than the 1960 film of the same name which stared Rod Taylor. Further, the 2002 film was directed by Simon Wells the great grandson of H.G. Wells! All the actors in the 2002 film acquit themselves rather well, in particular; Guy Pearce (the time traveller), Jeremy Irons (the Uber scary Chief Morlock), Mark Addy (the time traveller's close friend, David Philby) and even Samantha Mumba and her little brother. Sienna Guillory provides "the love interest". The 2002 film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Makeup but lost out to Frida. The special effects are very impressive and convincing. It is not a film for young children (there are a number of adult themes). It would be fine for any child over 12 - 13 years old. It is rated PG. A note to you anoraks out there. It is a fantasy film and should be viewed as such in that context. It is not meant to be a true story or a scientific explanation of time travel. Just switch off your brain for a couple of hours and enjoy the story!

Cult classic
Love this film, especially the sequence of the world changing over the thousands of years - best bit.

Not PAL region 2, it's NTSC region 1, incompatible with Blu Ray players in EU/UK
Yet again, item sold was incorrectly described, it is NOT a PAL region 2 release, it is a region 1 NTSC release, therefore incompatible with blu ray players in UK and EU etc. Moreover, Warner Bros 100 celebration catalogue (which this movie is one of them) are region free, this disc is not, Paramount which are releasing back catalogue titles on behalf of Warner Bros, are also region free for back catalogue, this is not region free. It states (printed on the blu ray cover) Discs made in Germany, which is bizarre, because then it would be region 2,but its not... I am more concerned over this whole situation, because I had a google bot alert for UK PAL release of the time machine 2002, and I got the alert last month, which had a direct link to this listing, which was listed as a region-free blu ray, there are so many things that were done with this product to mislead the consumer that it can't have been a mistake, and after looking into it, this has been happening for a couple of years now, going by the reviews...

I have to say I found this movie to be a great tribute to the the original 1960 version. I normally don't write reviews but I made an exception for this one. I found it to be a nostalgic delight and was pleased with how they overlapped the two timeliness at the end. Well done.
