Varathane 225248H Oil-Based One Step Stain + Poly, Quart, Cabernet

Did a really good job for what it is.

I love this stuff. I actually wipe it on and let it dry. Covers scratches and scrapes on my wood cabinets. Also sanded a small round table and brushed it on. You have to be sure to let it dry completely before adding another coat or it streaks.

After reading the reviews and looking at various products, I decided to give this one a try. It seemed like it would be simple and easy to just spray on this wood stain and - presto! - my furniture would be refinished. Unfortunately, this was too much to ask. There are a number of problems with this product. - I shook the bottle for one minute, as instructed, but the spray can spurted globs of varnish onto the furniture. (This didn't happen during my test on some spare wood. It only happened when I was spraying on the furniture.) I tried to wipe it off, but that just made it look streaky and uneven. - It is practically impossible to get an even coat with the spray can. No matter how hard I tried to spray evenly back and forth, there were places that ended up lighter and some darker. - Even though the can said that this product was made to use indoors, DO NOT USE IT INSIDE!! This was such a mistake. The spray went everywhere. Even with a tarp and newspapers on the floor and everywhere I thought the paint might reach, it still managed to coat everything in a sticky, thin layer of paint. I was able to get it off with a mixture of vinegar and water on a paper towel, which I rubbed over everything. - The fumes are dangerous and you don't want them in your house (read the bottle). My air conditioner pumped the fumes throughout our house. Not good. Also, even when I was wearing a heavy-duty breathing mask, I could still smell the varnish as I was spraying. It produces very strong fumes. It would have been so much easier to go get a bucket of stain/varnish and paint it on. If you are considering this product with the idea that it would be easier than the traditional methods of painting varnish on furniture, just don't do it. Period. I got a refund for this product, but I have a night stand and two dressers that are ruined because of it.

Looks great and was easy to apply!

I was given an old antique five shelf stand that had age stains and the paint was chipped and worn here and there. I used sand paper to clean away the chipped edges and then I used this spray stain which gave my shelf a beautiful finished look. I was able to place the shelf on newspaper in the middle of my living room and sprayed it at least twice before getting the look I wanted. No strong fumes even though I had 2 fans blowing and my floor fan actually helped to dry it quickly. Also, there was not a lot of the stain on the newspaper. I was really impressed even after one coat and even more impressed at how quickly it dried...I thought I would have to leave it overnight for drying but I was able to use it after a couple of hours. It made my shelf look new...I couldn't stop looking at it because the finish leaves a beautiful shine. Highly recommended.

Have a spare nozzle ready. Ordered two cans and both nozzles did not work when depressed. After playing with them I thankfully had another can of spray paint with a similar nozzle type, placed on both cans and tried to spray, perfect!! Great looking once I could get the nozzles to work, and would buy again!

Love the look of this stain. Also, can be applied in different temperature ranges. Does need time to dry and out gas. I used 2 coats to get it a little darker but 1 coat does work and does look good.

Good product. A bit expensive. But this allowed us to stain and polish furniture without needing to call a painter to do the same. So we ended up saving money there. The finish was excellent as well.

Very Good for do it yourself projects,yes even I had problem with the nozzle but I changed it with other nozzle received with 3M wood working 20 spary.

The nozzle was blocked completely, can't say how the product is bcoz nothing sprayed out.

Beware!!! The service of these spray can sellers is not good, or then the spray can itself is of bad quality. The can I bought doesn’t spray AT ALL. Either the can was faulty or it’s shelf life was over, hence I can’t gauge ”ease of use”; ”value for money” doesn’t seem promising.
