How does this compare to monopoly discover for a 5 year old? they both seem geared for the same audience. is one better?

I think they're pretty similar except you get two board games with Monopoly discover front and back board. It could be a helpful learning game as it has more counting and reading involved . The dinosaur edition is definitely cute and it's also a very very easy game to play . It's mainly based on counting in ones . Both will teach kids the basic rules involved in playing monopoly just with an educational twist (:

Is this game too "baby" for a clever eight year old?

My clever 8 year old LOVES to play the original Monopoly game. You might want to try the real version. It's been a lot of fun for our child. I don't know about the junior version, but the regular version is right on target for him. I hope this helps. :)
