This is my 2nd time ordering from Embark. It's easy to use, clear instructions and the health results are very useful. The rest of the results are fun and interesting. Website is user friendly.

We purchased two of these tests for our 2 XL dog breed girls at separate times. It was nice to know that both of my girls were 100% what their papers said they would be. My first girl was so behind on the growing curve for her breed. I was a little worried, but she seemed to be just a late bloomer and now at a little over 2 years. She is finally where a female for her breed should be. The test also gives you data on any potential health issues that they might have inherited. I was happy to see that both of my girls were clear of any issues we should keep in mind. They also give you a list of other dogs that are closely related to your dog and notify you of any new relatives. You can reach out to them if you would like to on their site. But till this day I have not had anyone reach out. It's fun to see their relatives and see if they have common personality traits or even resemble each other. You can opt out of making any information visible to others, which is always nice when users have control. You can upload any papers if you choose to do so or download any information they provide from the test results if you want to share that information with your vet or others. I can see people that breed their dogs can utilize this program as well. The turn around time seems to depend on how busy they are but from my experience, I would say two to three weeks. Don't be surprised that your swab gets shipped to Boston and then disappears. I contacted them and they told me they now test the swabs at the California site. I guess the prepackaged shipping envelope address has not been updated yet. Hopefully that will change since that seems to add the extra week of waiting time. Overall I am happy with the experience. If you have any questions they are also very good at responding.

I am very pleased with the speed and accuracy of this test. They asked for the birthdate, age, and weight of the dog. They did not ask about breed. The test verified that she was 100% English Toy Spaniel. Since I lost a dog last summer at age 8 to a genetic disease, I wanted to know if this dog might also carry the same problem. Only one increased risk and three things to be aware of. I was also interested in the inbreeding diversity. Eight years ago my daughter gave me a DNA test for the mixed breed dog I had. I laughed. I knew three of the breeds she had but I also knew she had longer legs than she should. It turned out she had collie in her and you never would have guessed it. At age 7 she had developed Collie eye so that answered that question for me. This test will help me and my vet keep an eye on the possible problems this dog might encounter in the future. Since the data base for English Toy Spaniels is small, I also feel I have contributed to their data base.

I bought this to check my dog to see if had any genetic issues due to his mother suddenly passing away and she was only three and half years old. The test was easy to do and the results came back within a month.

The results came back fairly quickly and they kept in touch with me so I was not left wondering when the results would be available. Everything came out like I was more or less expecting with one exception. I found out there was a drug sensitivity (MDR1) that I did not know about. This new information to give our vet made it worth the cost. Just wish I hadn't waited until my girl turned three to find this out.

LOVE Embark!!! I've been so curious to learn more about my adopted shih tzu, and the Embark kit delivered! Since shih tzu's are known for having certain health problems, I was especially interested in learning more about my pup's genetic markers for specific conditions. From start to finish, Embark ensures the process is clear and streamlined. Once you receive your pup's results, they're displayed in 5 categories online: Research, Breed, Health, Trait, Relatives Each has so much detailed information. I especially found the genetic diversity and inbreeding and "wolfiness" scores to be interesting! Another fun feature displays related dogs, based on their shared DNA with your pup. (I was excited to find my pup had several close relatives, but alas, I'm still waiting to hear back from their owners who I DM'ed. Response from dog owners not guaranteed ;) Finally, as someone who loves dogs, I also really appreciate that Embark users can complete surveys about their pup (behavior, environment, diet, etc) to contribute to ongoing research about our furry friends. All around, I'm so happy my pup and I could embark on this journey!

I was shipped the wrong test kit. I received the age test kit. I know the birthdate of my dog she’s a purebred with papers. Her birthdate is February 27, 2024. According to embark test kit, her birthday is December 30, 2023. That’s a huge difference my puppy is ages three months three weeks old when the test results came back saying she was five months old when you’re talking about a puppy that’s a huge difference little disappointed as to how off they were even after I told them her date of birth because I didn’t realize that it was an age test kit, and they asked you their date of birth so they were given the date of birth and they still gave me the wrong age. No, I realize this is all pretty much for fun, but they claim to be able to identify hereditary health traits that could be a problem to your dog now I’m really concerned if anything they come back with is actually accurate and that’s a lot of money for something that’s not accurate below is their answer as to why they got the age so wrong We know it’s not easy to hear that your dog’s age is different from what you expected based on a previous estimate. This can happen for a few different reasons. There are several physical clues that veterinarians and other trained professionals use to estimate dog age. These parameters can help give a general idea of a dog’s age, but they aren’t always reliable. Age is harder to determine after puppyhood, making it even more complicated. Unfortunately, this means that physical estimates of age aren’t always accurate. Keep in mind that these results are an estimate of your dog’s age and birthday. While the Age Test is comparable to the most accurate methylation clock models available for dogs today, it does not pinpoint the exact date of their birth, because methylation technology has not yet come far enough to predict age with that level of specificity. The prediction interval in your dog’s results tells you the range of dates that are likely to contain your dog’s true birthday. This DNA test was simple and straightforward to do, swab the dog's cheek and off we go. The level of detail on the results was fantastic, it includes things like a Coefficient of Inbreeding (coi) and genetic traits (which determines the colour and size of your pet). I much prefer this to wisdom panel which doesn't give this additional information.
