Invaluable tool for discovering interesting things to do
As someone who appreciates the path less travelled, I found this book extremely helpful for discovering sites to visit while trying to get from Point A to Point B. There's something for everyone, which means there are plentiful suggestions. If one item doesn't float your boat, perhaps the next one will. Personally, I found this much more useful than researching only online. After mapping out a route based on the book's recommendations, further online research fine tunes the itinerary.

Information on each state is very helpful. It provides top selections and road trip ideas. This was the best book I purchased for trip planning.

2026 Edition: Missed the Mark …
I was so excited to find this book. I preordered it. Graphics are wonderful. Great organization of each region and US state. However, for a comprehensive guidebook the info & aspects emphasized for each state miss the mark for the average traveler (whether you’re domestic or international). While the book covers the well-known USA tourist sites (eg. Museum of Modern Art in NYC, National parks, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame etc., ) so many details included are non-essential if you’re wanting to plan a trip or brush up on your USA states knowledge. With entire sections on tourist attractions per state organizated by activist cause(s), it seems the book is catering to a specific demographic rather than providing objective, detailed info + the “best” each place has to offer.

DON'T TRAVEL WITHOUT THIS
Bought this for my cousin who drives an 18-wheeler full time. He uses it constantly and has visited many interesting places because of it's recommendations. Tells me it's his travel "buddy" as he drives from coast-to-coast.

Great guide
This book covers all states in the USA and gives you really good reviews of certain places to visit in each state, the population, foods of not, maps, and souvenir items from each state too. There are lots of great pictures and certain places that are recommended to visit are also shown on the individual map for each state. We are currently planning our road trip and this books is proving invaluable to us.

Fantastic!
I bought this as a gift originally, but it was so good, I bought myself a copy. Fantastic for anyone travelling to the USA or interested in the USA in general. It describes all the treasures each state has to offer and is great if you want to plan a holiday or you're not sure which state you want to visit.
