9.5mm SATA to SATA 2nd SSD HDD Hard Drive Caddy Adapter Tray Enclosures

I recently picked up this Highfine Universal 9.5mm SATA Caddy, and it is easily one of the best "bang-for-your-buck" upgrades I’ve ever done for my laptop. If your internal storage is hitting the red zone, this is a total lifesaver. Why It’s a 5-Star Product: Dead Simple Installation: I’m not a professional technician, but the setup was incredibly straightforward. You basically just slide your extra drive into the caddy, secure it, and swap it with your laptop's existing CD/DVD drive. It took me less than 10 minutes from start to finish. Seamless, Flush Fit: I was worried about it sticking out or looking "modded," but it fits perfectly into the bay. It sits flush with the laptop chassis, maintaining the original look of my machine. Massive Storage Boost: My original hard drive was almost completely full. By using this caddy, I was able to add an additional 500 GB drive into the optical bay slot. It’s the perfect solution for anyone who doesn't use CDs anymore but desperately needs more space for files and games. Integrated System Feel: A huge plus is how the OS handles the drive. Unlike an external USB drive that you have to worry about unplugging, the system recognizes this as a standard internal SATA drive. It doesn't show up as "removable storage," which makes for a much more stable and permanent feel. Size Comparison & Dimensions I’ve attached photos showing the precise dimensions. As you can see, it is a perfect 9.5mm match to the original CD/DVD drive I pulled out. Make sure to check your laptop's drive thickness before ordering, but for a standard 9.5mm slot, this Highfine adapter is spot on. Bottom Line: If you have an empty or useless disk drive slot and a full hard drive, stop thinking about it and just buy this. It works exactly as advertised!

I replaced a DVD R/W in a Lenovo Thinkpad E540 with the Highfine Universal Caddy and installed a 1TB Samsung SSD as the storage device. Here are my observations: -- WORKS PERFECT: After installed , it worked perfectly first time. -- EASY INSTALL: Very easy to install. -- NO INSTRUCTIONS PROVIDED. No instructions needed. There is plenty of Utube and other helpful instructions online. -- NEED TO REUSE SOME PARTS: You need to save the metal tab on the end and carefully remove the DVD plastic bezel to reuse. -- UNIVERSAL BEZEL NOT A PERFECT FIT: It comes with a flat plastic universal bezel but my E540 laptop has a highly beveled attachment. While the universal bezel will fit, there is a large gap underneath and probably not good for the highly engineered air flow needed to keep the electronics cooled. If your replacing a DVD save the bezel to re-use. -- DON'T BUY A CADDY ON EBAY!: I purchased a caddy on Ebay and over several days had problems with random blue screen and rebooting. The contacts on the connectors appeared thin and dull. When I would flex the laptop buy picking it up with one hand the laptop would blue screen or reboot. -- HIGHFINE IS BETTER QUALITY: The Highfine caddy is subtlety different then the Ebay unit and the Highfine caddy SATA contacts look more robust, thicker with better quality gold vaporized on the contacts. When I pick up the laptop as mentioned above there were not issues with rebooting or blue screen. All around 100% better than ebay.

This caddy allows a quick increase in onboard storage for any laptop equipped with a DVD drive. My HP has a screw on the bottom of the case that allowed me to pull the DVD player out of the side of the laptop and insert the caddy with a new SSD that doubled capacity immediately and seamlessly. The caddy is well made and fitted the original DVD player plastic bezel perfectly. The single retaining screw fit correctly and secures the caddy solidly. A good value with quick and easy installation.

Used this product alongside my Acer Aspire E5-576G to connect an old m.2 ssd inside an enclosure. It's a pretty good idea due to how uncommon optical media is becoming nowadays, and how valuable storage space is becoming. PROS • Relatively easy installation. Simply required me to unscrew a screw on the bottom of my laptop and pull out the optical drive, then insert the product into the slot. • Concept. As previously stated, it's just a pretty good idea all around. • Reliability. So far, I have had no issues with the device cutting out or not registering. Surprisingly reliable. CONS • Material. The materials used are horrendously cheap. A very thin and flimsy pressed aluminum along with an equally flimsy plastic shell. Despite this low material quality it still serves its purpose, and considering that it's internal it shouldn't impact durability that much. Just be careful not to bend it. • Does not eject like a disk reader. This is mostly me nitpicking, but if you were expecting this product to have a spring loaded ejection system where you can push a button and pop it open while the computer is still on and swap out the drive, it does not have this. Once the device is screwed in, you have to tediously flip your laptop over, unscrew it and pull it out to swap out the drive, then put it back into the slot and screw it back in. It's tedious.

Used this to add a second SSD to install Linux on and be able to dual boot. Worked great.

Bottom line; it works, but man does it have some issues. For starters, the connections were very tight, which is kind if a good thing i ln retrospect, but it was annoying when installing. I had to basically force my hard drive into the bay before it would seat properly and read in my system. Same goes for this device itself; mating up to the sata connections previously used by the disc drive required some force, as the fitment for me was very tight, and I had to reaaally shove this into my laptop. I also had to remove some metal bits off of the original disc reader and fix them to this thing so that I had a way to secure it inside my machine with a screw. Luckily there were mounting holes in the right spots to accommodate, so that was actually pretty convenient, but this device doesn't come with that hardware, so make sure you understand how your current drive is secured and be prepared to move some stuff around. Once it was in, it was nearly impossible to remove without damaging the housing. It sits deep inside the laptop, and has no easy points to grab on to with any kind of pliers or anything that I had sitting around. I ended up prying it out (because the drive wasn't seated all the way, as explained above) with a screw driver but damaged part of the housing. I went ahead and drilled a hole in the center and fixed a screw to the casing so that I have SOMETHING to pull on whenever I want to swap drives or even put the disc reader back in, and that's been working out OK. Overall, there are a few of these on the market, and honestly I think they're all going to have similar issues. At the end of the day it DOES work, though you might have to get a little creative. A NOTE ON COMPATIBLE DRIVES Keep in mind that the drive you can install is basically limited to 2tb if you're going mechanical, since most companies start stacking platters at 3tb and higher. Those thicker (taller) disks aren't going to fit. However, if you're going SSD then you're most likely going to be OK as I'm pretty sure they're all the same thickness.

Putting together a LAB environment in my house to practice my skills and chase after a few certs. Purchased a used Dell r610 server, a couple hard drives and this CDROM/HDD converter kit from here. I wanted to take advantage of the sata port the cdrom was connected to, seeing that I wasn’t going to be using the cdrom for anything in the foreseeable future, and if needed, I have a external USB one just in case. Right off the bat, the Hard Drive Caddy Adapter worked like a champ. The Dell R610 had zero issues recognizing the SSD hard drive once I booted it up. Installation went pretty straight forward, with only one minor hiccup. The holes for the little plastic bit that used to secure the cdrom to the case didn’t match up between the Dell’s cd rom and the adapter. This wasn’t anything that couldn’t be fixed with a little nail and equally as little hammer. The metal casing for the caddy is pretty thin, little too thin is you ask me, so I had no issue driving a pilot hole into the back of the caddy to match up with the holes on the plastic locking piece. As for the overall caddy size, it was darn near identical in dimensions with the cdrom I removed from the server, darn near except that the caddy was a hair shorter in height, enough so that it left a noticeable gap when I inserted into the server. Not a show stopper, but still something someone might notice in a similar setup. This by no means affected the caddy in any way, the plastic locking bit was still ale to engage, and the SATA/Power cable (Yes I know this is not the right term for what being using on the server) was still able to connect. Overall, I was happy I spent the extra couple buck to utilize what would have been a wasted sata port on my server.

Es una buena opción para la expansión a un segundo disco duro, la instalación se complica un poco dependiendo de la ranura de la máquina en la mi tuve que remover el plástico frontal de mi lector de disco para que quedara a la perfección, si incluyera una tornillo para poder bloquear el mecanismo de acceso sería muy útil, ya que no lo incluye.

I replaced my Lenovo Z570 DVD drive with HDD using this caddy, it works fine. However, the hole for fixing the small bracket did not match so I have to make new hole for the screws. Also, the caddy thickness is not match (original 12mm, caddy 9.5mm). The original side cover did not match as well so I used the caddy cover and not looks good on the laptop as it has gap/opening.

Reasonable quality, cheap .. added my 500gb SSD to old laptop.
