does the plug work in the USA?

No, it doesn't. I have one and you either need 4x AA Batteries preferably Lithium Batteries or you can get the Universal North American Plug Adapter Euro Asia Plug to USA style Plug. Those are the only 2 ways to use it. Either with "Double A" Batteries or with an Adapter because it doesn't come with one.
