It is both a router and an AP. It has a 4-port switch with vlan capability and speed/duplex/flow control setting. As a switch, the mac address list of connected devices is available, as well as packet/error counters, bonding, port mirroring, etc, as with enterprise managed switches. You can route or switch between ethernet ports; also you can route or bridge between wired ports and wireless lan. The IP module includes an iptables-style firewall.As other users said, it's a powerful and very flexible box, intended for home or small business use. You can do almost everything you want with it.

False fear. These are very safe levels. At 6 inches away this has less power than your cell phone does next to your head. At 2 feet is has 10% of your cell phone's power. At 3 feet it has 1% of your cell phone. Etc.
