Cinderella [K. Y. Craft] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Cinderella Review: Beautiful book! - Beautiful book. Illustrations are wonderful! Review: Lovely story and beautiful historically accurate illustrations - What I love about this Cinderella book is not only that story is very well told, but the illustrations are beautiful and accurately depict historical clothing (Louis XIV period in French history in this case). Kinuko Craft works to depict the characters as they would have been shown in certain places and historical periods...with an added touch of fantasy as well. If you look at her illustration for the opera Madame Butterfly, you'll see exactly the clothing appropriate to a Japanese lady in the 1850s in Japan. My mother is Japanese and not only recognized the clothing as period-appropriate, but also recognized the harbor that was depicted outside of Madame Butterfly's window. It is that accurate. Rest assured that if you get any of these fairy tales for your children, including the Greek myth Cupid and Psyche, you can tell them what's shown is what people used to wear in different historical periods. I bought this for my granddaughter, and it's still one of her biggest favorites.

K.Y. CRAFT MAKES "CINDERELLA" A STUNNING WORK OF ART
I love fairy tales and have a large collection of fairy tale books and DVDS. "Cinderella" is, of course, the most famous fairy tale of all time. And K.Y. Craft's magnificent illustrations make this book the most gorgeous "Cinderella" of all time. This book contains a significent episode I have not found in other versions. While walking in the woods, Cinderella discovers an injured bird. The Prince spots Cinderella tending to the poor bird and is immediately enchanted by her beauty and kindness. Cinderella is more concerned with the bird's health. She quickly acknowledges the Prince and runs off into the woods. Later, the bird lands on Cinderella's window-sill and transforms into the fairy godmother. K.Y. Craft's illustrations are magical (Cinderella's pumpkin coach is shown flying through the air on the way to the Ball) and exquisite. The word "illustrations" does not begin to do Craft justice. These are actually detailed paintings; many of which cover two full pages. This "Cinderella" is not a children's book. It is a stunning work of art that should be cherished by people of all ages.

This was a wonderful telling of Cinderella
I loved this telling of Cinderella but not because I think it’s better than the Disney one. (I absolutely love the Disney one, I watched it so many times as a child) I think both of them are equally good variations of the Charles Perrault fairytale. I didn’t think the illustrations were beautiful at first because they felt different to me compared to Sleeping Beauty’s which was also illustrated by K.Y. Craft. I had that book ever since I was in elementary school when I asked a teacher to buy it for me. Along with the enchanting art it also came with a wonderful smell maybe almost like roses or a nice perfume on the inside of the pages. The art in that book seemed like the most beautiful artwork I’ve ever seen in any picture book I’ve ever read. Also from reading this I’ve come to realize that Cinderella is for dreamers because she herself is one (I always thought Sleeping Beauty would be more the one who was the princess of dreams because you know-the Disney one and all that.) So I think it’s sweet when you open up the book you always see that message for the readers. I have begun to love the illustrations and writing in Cinderella book though after giving it more chances by re-reading it at least six times. I would definitely recommend it. Also to any person who’s beginning to be a fan of K.Y. Craft’s art or is interested in looking at more by her and also wants to start collecting her books I would suggest maybe not go looking at them on google images because you might be spoiled by a illustration that’s from one of the picture books she’s worked on. I just thought I’d type this in case someone would prefer to be surprised if they want to read a book that’s she’s illustrated. I’ve personally had something like this happen to me and now I don’t feel much for some of her art because I’ve already seen some of it.

Beautiful book
This is a beautiful book. However, my 4 to 7 year old grandchildren, who are used to the Disney version, were not interested in it.

If You Are Tired of Disney...
As much as we've tried to avoid it, it seems that everywhere we go, we are accosted by Disney princesses, with their vapid expressions and suggestive poses. I'd like to nurture my three year old daughter's love of fairy tales without filling our home with cheap Disney princess crap. In an effort to expose her to a classier, richer version of Cinderella, I purchased this book. I was not disappointed. The illustrations are beautiful and the storyline is a tad more complex than the Disney version. While Cinderella's character is not exactly robustly developed (this is a children's book after all), her virtuous traits and classic beauty are a bit more inspiring and authentic in this version. This has become one of my daughter's favorite books to read at bedtime, and I've found that I enjoy reading it to her. The language of the narrative is more satisfying than what you find in most children's books--the diction more sophisticated and the syntax more varied. Overall, the book is very well done, and I'm happy I purchased it.
