Q: Is there a carrying case or display case for this chess set?

there are so 3rd party display cases on the market. carrying cases i am not aware of. i use for mine an old laptop carrying bag works great for the out doors.

Yes it is all Lego sets require building.

Q: Does the board fold to close and can you store the pieces inside?

The board does not fold up, however there are carrying cases in the third party market you can purchase.

Q: Is this set difficult to put together for a 8 year old boy.

My 8 year old Grand daughter really enjoyed the kit. She had some occasional help from her Dad but was pretty independent in assembly. She was tickled pink to receive it as a Christmas present. She’s been doing Legos for several years now.

We are a Lego loving home!

This set was a bit pricey to not include a storage space , especially since there's room for there to be one anyway. Also it could have been a bit bigger for the price. To actually play chess.
