Impressive out of the box.
This is an excellent dagger and sheath design. I suspect this will be the swan song for SOG daggers, as long as GSM owns SOG. Fortunately, the Pentagon FX and FX Covert models were designed prior to GSM, and I'm glad I picked one up, since I missed out on the original Seki Pentagon's in SOG's heyday. The pentagon covert feels great in the hand with jimping in all the right places for a secure saber or icepick grip. The handle is small and not really intended for a hammer grip. The hilt is very minimal and slightly rounded, just enough to ramp your thumb against and hold your index finger secure, without being too wide or squared to catch on clothing or gear. Almost as smooth as a hiltless design. When held in a saber grip the jimping on the pommel also locks securely into the bone of your palm for thrusting motions. The same jimping on the pommel makes a secure backstop for your thumb in the ice pick grip. The sheath is equally well thought out with death grip retention and has several carry options; the pocket clip works well and holds securely to whatever you attach it to, the clip can also be removed and re-attached across the lashing holes near the hilt for scout style. You can also remove the clip for a slimmer sheath and use the lash holes with paracord to secure to your boot, ankle or use as a neck knife. You can even use Velcro tape on the smooth back of the sheath (clip removed) and attach directly to your plate carrier or any other gear with Velcro. One reviewer mentioned popping out the tabs on the inside of the sheath... DO NOT DO THIS. Those tabs pressure fit over the ends of the hilt and hold the dagger securely. Sheathing the dagger requires some force and produces an audible click when those tabs lock in place over the hilt. I suspect people are not doing this properly, hence the bad reviews regarding the sheath retention. I EDC the pentagon attached to the shoulder strap of my maxpedition sitka pack, pommel down, utilizing the stock UMS belt clip with no retention issues at all. Lastly, the only minor con that I can find is that the edges are not very sharp out of the box, as pointed out by other reviewers. The edge is serviceable and can be improved with honing, however, slicing tasks are not for dagger style blades. The design utilizes maximum tip strength for penetration tasks, and a little edge sharpness is sacrificed due to blade geometry. Out of the box, the point is sharp and well-formed for its intended use.

A good little back-up knife
Absolutely an awesome little fixed blade. Sheath holds well and the belt clip although a little thin in my opinion also works well.

Garbage
Smaller than expected and barely able to grip. Blade is nice but the sheath is absolute trash. $170 knife you should get a sheath that actually holds the knife in. Just turning the sheath upside down the knife would slide right out. Couldn't tighten or anything. Shows that SOG is still a garbage brand.

Not my favorite SOG purchase. But it's not 'bad'
Just a few of my points. 1) They must have upped their game regarding the sheath, because the one with mine is awesome. Solid and holds the knife VERY secure. The belt clip is also very sturdy. 2) I should have gone with the full sized model, because this is much smaller in my hand, than expected. It's not the worst I've ever felt, but I do wish it had just a hint more for beefiness and length of the handle. 3) Mine showed up dull as a butter knife. Call me crazy.....But when spending my $ on a knife, it shouldn't have to require me to spend a lot of time with it on my stones. Seriously. What happened to the QC on this one? For the record, this is the 1st SOG knife I've purchased that came dull. The others were sharp as F right out of the box.

Great Knife and Sheath
Great knife and sheath. For those saying the sheath is trash - you didn't push the knife in all the way. Once it is in all the way you will quickly see that it is VERY secure.

The sheath is crazy loose right out of the box
The blade is a bit smaller than expected but still fits a large hand okay. Very sharp on both edges. The small sheath thet comes with it is horribly loose. I will have to find something else thst SOG may have or get a custom sheath made. EDIT: There are 2 little tab just inside the sheath on either side. Using a small screwdriver, I popped those two little nubs out and the knife now fits nice and snug. My void the warranty on the sheath but at least its a snug fit now.
