Can you use this outdoors on uncovered porch, in the winter without any issues? Battery or plug in?

Yes, this can be used outside in an open, uncovered setting. It is electric and requires plug in. Not battery powered.

Will it hold regular size ornaments?

From what I recall, yes, this tree works accomodate regular sized ornament. Please note that I RETURNED this item and am only going by memory!

I believe it comes with 70 pre-strung lights. Not super bright, but would be okay if you were using it as an entrance tree inside or outside you front door as they suggest. I am using it as a small end table tree to decorate, so I opted to remove the pre-strung lights and replace it will a 200 LED string instead.
