What's the difference between this and the play gradient light strip, apart from not getting the TV Mount's

This gradient strip is not designed to sync to a TV with use of the Hue Play Sync box (bought separately at ~£200). I have one behind my desk, for example. See 'What's Required' under the 'About this item' of both listings for more info.

How can I sync this strip light with my TV?

No, you need a sync box or app (2022 samsung TV)

Does this light strip have a built in diffuser like the outdoor Hue light strips?

Yes, but you can still see the individual led’s. I’ve not seen an outdoor strip in the flesh, but going from the pictures I’ve seen, the diffuser on this is not as strong.

Can you use the app to 'paint' different colours onto this strip?

You can assign 3 zones on the strip. So yeas but only 3 colours
