OXO Brew Adjustable Temperature Kettle, Electric Kettle, Glass and Stainless Steel, Holds Temperature for 30 Minutes

I have been using this kettle for about 2 weeks and so far, I absolutely love it. As an avid tea and coffee drinker now in healthcare professional school, I use it at least twice daily, usually more. I love the quality of OXO products, and was very excited about this kettle in particular because of the variable temperature feature to make different teas at the optimal temperature. Overall, I find this kettle easy to pick up and fill with water d/t the large handle with a soft grip. It has a huge capacity, and I love the fact that there is a temperature guide on the base for whatever kind of tea/coffee you're making. It's also really pretty on my counter. :) I have read some reviews concerning the slow pour and yes - it is slow at first. I don't consider this to be a design flaw, but rather a safety mechanism to ensure that you don't splatter yourself with boiling or near-boiling water. Does it take some getting used to compared to kettles with a faster pour? Absolutely. But as someone with a busy schedule who uses this multiple times per day, I would not say it's a deal breaker. Re: the inability to get every single drop of water from the kettle - this is an issue for every electric and stovetop kettle I've ever used, so I've come to expect it. It's not that much water, and I usually even leave water in my kettle so when I'm a zombie in the morning and every motion I take requires extra effort, I'm one step closer to my life force AKA caffeine. There does appear to be some mineral build-up on the bottom of the kettle already (I use regular ol' tap), but again, I would expect this with any electric kettle I use, considering how often I use them. It might be appearing a bit earlier than other kettles on the market, but I think given the quality and large capacity and features of this machine, it's worth it.

I received this item a couple of days ago and used it to heat filtered water for my coffee (French press) and tea. It works like a dream, looks great on my counter, is simple to use and clean. It even has a handy temperature reference guide on the base so you always know what temperature to use for what purpose! Being able to adjust incrementally by single degrees seems a bit over the top for my uses but it's nice having that control if I need to experiment with cooking, heat absorption/transfer among vessels, etc. I can get my hand in if I need to really clean it well but it shouldn't need much with the use of filtered water, my inclination to not leave water in it when not in use, and leave the lid open while it dries. We'll see as time goes on but so far, it makes me very happy!

Update July 2023: this thing finally broke and it was all my fault. In a heated moment, the kettle got slammed down on its base too hard (I mean stupid hard) and it wouldn't make regular electrical contact. After repairing it myself (bad idea, but like I said before, I love this thing and I'm a tinkerer at heart) and recognizing my repair was slowly becoming a fire risk (totally my fault for an unauthorized sketchy and desperate homebrew repair), I replaced it with the same model in January 2021 without a second thought. No regrets - It's been going strong for the 2.5 years since! I still use it daily to boil probably a cumulative 2 gallons for tea and other things like speed-starting pasta and oatmeal with already-boiling water since this thing is so fast. At work for about 4 years we have had another popular temperature controlled tea kettle (brand name begins with C and ends in art) with push buttons for different temperatures and the print on the buttons has eroded. It's annoying because it beeps at you all the time. The C-art kettle broke this week (for the curious: the heating element somehow burned out according to a DMM) and it reminded me how much I love this kettle, so I'll probably be buying a third one of these to replace the work kettle. Original review: Use: I bought this kettle in June 2019, and have used it many times daily excepting only vacations. Me: Daily tea drinker - oolongs, green, white, Earl grey, you name it. All these teas require very different temperatures to brew in a tasty fashion. If the temperature is off, my expensive and usually tasty tea tastes like donkey doodoo and I'm grumpy and that sucks. I've put this kettle through its paces in 9 months. Pros: - heats water to 1°F increments over 170°-212° range (do your own Celsius conversions, I drink my tea in Imperial units). I don't have a calibrated thermometer, but it must be accurate enough for my tea because it's always tasty. - looks awesome: smooth surfaces and minimal design mean it's stupid easy to keep clean. And I'm a slob, so that's a miracle. - durable: I'm not gentle to devices. I don't take caution about using warm water in the kettle to avoid thermal shock on the glass and it hasn't cracked or even creaked for that matter. Cold water in hot kettle? You bet, all the time. - Fast: most of the time I start the kettle and run off to do another task - and when I'm done brushing my teeth it's done making my water hot. Awesome. Cons: - bottom temperature is only 170°F: doesn't really matter for most kettle purposes but there's been a time I wanted to have "warm" water to shortcut some baking recipes. This is only a very mild disappointment. - like someone else mentioned in their review, there was a silicone smell/taste at first. I got real nervous about having silicone flavored water coming out of my most expensive hot water maker to date, but it went away after a week or two of daily use. Haven't had it since, water tastes only like water. Summary: this kettle is totally worth the cash if you use a device like this all the time. I beat myself up with guilt for a couple weeks for covering such an expensive appliance that does such a basic thing, but if your water temperature matters then this kettle is awesome. And it classes-up my countertop with it's excellent design. If this one breaks I'll just buy another one like it, but it's still going strong after 9ish months of daily beatings. My work has one of those fancy Cuisinart temperature-select push button water kettles at work and this one is way better in both performance, reliability, and design. I basically hate Amazon but after using my kettle this morning for the thirteenthousand time, figured it had earned a positive review on this awful platform anyway. Hope that helps someone!

I've had this kettle for 6 months now and use it almost daily. Overall, it's a pretty good kettle. It gets my water hot, so that basically fulfills it's purpose. However, for a device that costs around $100 and comes from OXO, I expect a bit better. It's like whoever designed this never actually used it. Normally OXO is so thoughtful about how something is used. Guess that engineering team was out sick or something. Many others have complained about the lip. No matter how you pour the water out, even completely upside down, there is still going to be a small amount of water that is trapped inside. Now combine this with the annoying default setting of having the 'Keep Warm' function on, and you have the perfect recipe for hard water stains all over the bottom of the kettle. Just perfect for something that is completely see through! Do yourself a favor and get a good descaling product with this purchase. Not a fan of the 'Keep Warm' function, and especially less so that it's defaulted on and can't be changed. I would assume many people only use their kettle to boil the amount of water they need for a particular task. Why do I need more hot water just sitting there? I could just warm it up again quickly if I needed to. If I wanted hot water on demand, I would buy a device suited to the task. Why can't I turn it off? Now every time I make my coffee or tea, I have to press the button again to make sure I turn it off, or else I place the carafe back on the base and it starts boiling the small amount of water that was trapped by the faulty lip. Almost seems like a fire hazard to me. Now these things aren't deal breakers, and are very much first world problems, but for the steep price tag, this kettle should be flawless. I'm shocked OXO would put their name to this. That being said, the dial is convenient and satisfying to use, water gets to temp quickly, measurements on the side are legible, and I appreciate that is has a memory of the last temp setting you used. It even has handy temp guides on the base. All around a perfectly functional kettle. It holds water and boils it. But I wouldn't buy again for this price point.

I'm not a big tea drinker, and I've never owned a kettle like this before, so I can't really compare it to other products on the market. I based my purchase on reading positive reviews prior to ordering. The good: * It's easy to use. Temperature controls work well and are basic but pretty intuitive. * It seems to heat up quickly (although I don't have a lot of experience with other kettles to compare). * Makes a lot of hot water (assuming you want that). The not so good (?): * It's big. Like, I have no idea what people make this much hot water for big. In retrospect, I probably didn't need anything nearly this large. I can make two mugs of tea and use barely a third of the capacity. The downside is it takes up more counter space than we're really getting out of it. This could be a selling point if you actually know you want to heat a ton of water regularly, but it's overkill for a basic cup of tea now and then. * I have no idea how you're supposed to clean it. Seriously. It's not supposed to be immersed in water, so you can't dishwasher it or anything automatic. With coffee pots you can just stick your hand inside and use a dish rag, but the shape of this kettle is super awkward. The top cover is permanently affixed as far as i can tell, so you can't really get a hand inside past the opening to clean anything. The only option seems to be to spray water in it and rinse it and hope it gets clean? * Speaking of the super awkward top design, it's surprisingly hard to dry out too. The top portion above the glass is a collar that indents, which means it catches water before it reaches the spout. It's not a problem for filling a cup, but it doesn't let the last of the water drain out when you're done. Compounding things, the fixed lid only has the filler piece that pops open, so to rest the thing upside-down to drain and air out you have to try to prop the entire weight of the kettle on the little plastic lid door, which I'm afraid is eventually going to break it.

Just reordered this kettle, our first kettle lasted 8 years, used multiple times a day; finally started to corrode from our hard water. Was happy to shell out the $100+ for reliable and fast boiled water. I do have to remind my parents how to use it when they visit because the settings are a little more nuanced than a straight forward switch, but it’s nothing to press the button twice once you get used to it.

I really like my new OXO tea kettle. It is easy to use, keeps the water warm for 30 minutes and looks great on my counter top. It took a time or two to get use to setting the temperature and turning it on. I have zero complaints. If something pops up after a month or two I will update the review. If you don’t see an update that means I am still living my OXO teakettle. UPDATE - I still am totally in love with my OXO teakettle. I had read all the reviews before purchasing and I think OXO has updated some things. First the button to turn the machine on also turn is on. The first quick press of the button, tells you what temperature it is going to heat the water to, second quick press tells you the current temperature of the water a third press will shut it off. Also once water has heated, and you have returned the pot you can press the button and it will turn off instead of keeping the water warm for thirty minutes. I have no problem with pouring the water from the teapot to my cup. I have owned many electric ones over the years and this is the best in my opinion.

Based on the pictures I saw of the kettle online, I thought it could be too big, but it's actually not bad at all (see the pic with a hand-size comparison). The kettle is not too bulky, is going to look great with my coffee bar, is slightly heavy holding one handed, but totally worth the purchase. I've used the kettle everyday for the last week (since it arrived) and I've had no problems with it. I like that the temperature I set it on (for my daily french press) is remembered every time I turn it on, so I don't have to reset it. The outside of the kettle gets foggy after use (as you can see in the pics), but it goes away if you leave the lid open for a few minutes). The only con I have found for this kettle is that inside of the kettle is a rim that catches exiting water when you're rinsing it out; I would prefer the kettle is be sleek inside so that any water put in easily comes out and does not catch on an internal ridge/rim/divet (see the pics I uploaded- I'm pointing to the rim and in the other you can see water building up/held by the rim when kettle is overturned). The first time I heated up the kettle, it took around 8 minutes to get to 200 degrees, but every time thereafter it was only 1-3 minutes. The glass and bottom silver rim do get hot to the touch, but the remaining structures no so much and the kettle base (that's plugged into the wall) is cool to the touch. I absolutely love this product and am so happy I did my research and purchased it!

My wife is a tea connoisseur and this OXO water heater is the best for tea lovers. Each tea has to have a certain water temperature and the OXO does the trick. It looks good, works prefect and is super simple to use. This product is super!!!

This may be pricey, but it's reliable and works so fast - love the adjustable temperature too! It's perfect for different teas and coffees.

2 year update: The kettle broke 1 month before the end of the warranty period. Waiting to see how Oxo support replies. The display lights up and controls work but it doesn't boil the water. This is probably the downside of having all the electronics in this appliance. Will adjust rating once oxo replies. ------ Bought this to upgrade from an old Salton electric kettle that only had preset temperatures. This Oxo kettle was an upgrade. Great looking, precise, ergonomic kettle. But no presets (which i miss a little). Would still recommend. Pro -Very precise temperature control. Great for brewing coffee/tea or when you need to sous vide something and need alot of water at a precise temp. -Powerful, takes 1.8L of water from 10C to 100C in just under 3 minutes. -Beautiful sleek modern look -Easy to use and dial in an exact temperature -Great ergonomic easy to grip handle and intuitive temperature dial. Cons -No presets. I use this to heat my water for an Aeropress, another person in my household makes tea. We're continually readjusting the temperature whenever we want to brew something. Only downside of sleek design. -The last 30ml of water gets trapped on the inner lip of the filter so it's challenging to get the last little bit of water when cleaning or pouring. -The knob is a little stiff so can be a little slippery in the hand when a little greasy while cooking, but better than too loose.

I primarily use this kettle for French press coffee in the morning. I use it every morning. It far exceeded my expectations with regard to build quality and the speed that it boils water. I am looking forward to many years of use.
