Can this fit an artichoke

Yes Patty! This Vegetable Steamer will fit enough vegetables to keep you satisfied in one meal, and that includes 2 or 3 artichokes.

I assume it gets very hot. Could I put a microwave safe plate under it to lift it out of the microwave? I have to lift with one hand due to balance.

I haven't found that it gets that hot, but no reason to not put a mv safe plate under it. Do be careful when removing the lid so as to not get burned by steam.
