I returned this unit. Did not work for me. Lid was not tight, the lid would rock. And we went with a new concept, a Hamilton Beach Slow Cooker that I am able to sear meat, onions, garlic in, you name it! I bought the 7 qt and find the weight of the searing unit much easier to handle than that of the heavy crock that Crock Pot offers. I did not know if I would like the new HB, it has an electric knob, but, I love it. Am able to cook it 10 hours with a 4 hour warm setting the unit reverts to if I am not home. We absolutely love our new Hamilton Beach Searing Slow Cooker. I looked at my HB is 290 watts. I also looked here on Amazon, and dont' see it. I got mine at Costco. It's so good tho, I had to write about it. Good Luck!

On average, how long does it usually take before it starts simmering?

Depending on the ingredients, it takes about 4 hours to reach the simmer point of 209° to 215° F.

Does this crockpot contain lead in it's stoneware insert? i read several articles stating that most crockpots contain lead. tia

Defective Piece ???

The first time I used it the handles just melted and I got a burning smell from all the plastic surrounding material... have just returned it - maybe got a defective piece.. lets see what happens

do not recommend at all

if i could give this a 0 i would. the handles literally melted off and my whole house smelled like plastic for days. why do they sell here if the voltage doesn’t align? no idea? please don’t get this without checking the voltage

Handles Melted

Item arrived and we tried using it the same day. Crock pot got so hot that the handles melted off and my partner could smell burning plastic. Good thing he was home to catch this..

Do not buy! The entire outer of the cooker got searingly hot and the handles melted off. I have since gone through the reviews here and have seen that other people have had the same problem. This item needs to be removed from all platforms as is it a huge fire risk! Very annoyed at the money spent and wasted!

I bought those lovely bags that you can use in these cookers, and boy, are they awesome! They save a lot of time, scrubbing, and headaches. This is a good cooker, similar to the red one I bought here a while back on my other account, which I tossed because I got sick of everything sticking to it. Be sure to buy the plastic liners—they work really well and save a lot of time! No, they won't melt! I was skeptical about that myself, and the food doesn't taste like plastic.
