My 24-12v 20a converter with low draw (few milliamp) cycles on and off every 3-4 seconds. Runs correctly with 30w draw. Is it defective?

Mine does not cycle even with only 1 amp load. I do know the input draw unloaded is only around 5 ma., so it might need .1 amp load to keep it activated.

Bill, I am buying the 24 to 12, 30 amp, 340 watt converter. should I use the 2a or 12a 20 volt battery to get the full 30 amp output of converter?

Your question isnt very clear. It depends on the specifications of the battery. The lower the input voltage is, more amps will be needed to provide 30 amps of output at 12 volts. A 20 volt input will require approximately 20 amps from the source to acheive 30 amps at 12 volts. When you mentioned 2a or 12a battery, did you mean amp hour rating? If the source is lithium batteries with a high output rating of 20 amps or more, or a common lead acid battery, you will be OK but only for short periods of time if you only have 2 ah of capacity. "Amp hours" refers to capacity not ability to provide amps. If the battery is capable of 20 amps, plus inefficiencies through the converter, then it only boils down to the amount of time the battery will last before being depleted.

Works well, seems to be good quality.

First one I received didn’t work. Second one works perfectly. I double side taped it to the inside of the golf cart and ran it to a fuse box for all my 12v things. And if I ever need to upgrade to more than 20amps, the quick connectors are going to be great.
