Just what I wanted: simplicity and longevity.
For some reason the mechanical timers never laster long for me. (6 months to a year.). So after going through three of them, I decided to go electronic. But I wanted one that is simple to set and use. I found that in this unit. The only hard part was my installation guy learning the different wiring connections from the mechanical one he installed. But that was only a half hour of additonal learning. Anyway, it’s been on and working flawlessly for over six months, and it seems like it’s going to do so for years. So if you want something simple, or something that turns to pool on and off on different days of the week, this unit will do the job. The only thing is the clock is set on military time (1300 is 1:00pm, 1400 is 2:00pm, etc.), and I’ve found no way to change it. And the display isn't very bright. (I used a flashlight.). Other than those two items that you only need to deal with when you first set it up, it seems great.

So far so good
I purchased 2 units. One for a 240v water heater, one for a 120v hot water recirculation pump. Both for my home hot water system. Before ordering, I read a lot of the 1 star reviews. A lot of the reviews stated the install instructions and programming instructions were difficult to understand; display can not be read if not looking straight at it; the display screen dies after 8 months or so. Install It does need to be mounted in such a way that you are able to look at the display straight on. Either at standing height or kneeling height for ease of install and programming. If you have a basic understanding of electrical diagrams, these can be installed with ease. I do recommend making your own jumper wires of the same wire gauge you are using for install. This will allow equal clamping pressure when you tighten the clamp screws. Programming It did take me two tries to get it right only because I skipped a step. If you follow the instructions step by step, programming is a breeze. Display failing I guess I'll find out in 8 months if the display is going to fail. I'll update review if this happens.

Great hardware! Lousy documentation!
I purchased this device to replace a trusty mechanical Intermatic timer that simply wore out after 27 years of use on my pool pump. Since I was rebuilding the entire pump system, and since I live in Florida, where power is not the most reliable, I figured this device, with its 3 month settings retention, would free me from the constant timer resetting needed by the mechanical timer it replaced. The device looks sturdy, with good overall hardware engineering and is rainproof, as mine sits in the open and never gets water inside. Wiring it was not complicated once the manufacturer sent me a photo of where the wires were supposed to go. This is because the drawings in the manual make little sense with the "real world". Then comes the programming... And this is where the documentation simply falls flat on its face. It took me weeks to get this device to actually turn the pump on and off on a schedule! I only need ONE schedule... Pump on in the morning, run for 8 hours, pump off in the evening, every day of the week. But there are TWENTY PROGRAMMING SCHEDULES! Now: How do I select Schedule #1? The manual does not say! My final fix was to install the same program in ALL 20 programming slots. This stops the device from deciding on its own what schedule to select. Now, with every selection being the same, the device starts and stops the pump correctly, and I don't care what schedule is active! If not for the crappy documentation, this device would deserve 5 stars plus. Its reliable, relatively inexpensive, simple to install, and it won't rust. If the documentation were at the same level of the hardware, this box would be a winner! If this company would invest in some qualified, English speaking Technical Writers that won't forget to document small but important things, like how to select a program to execute, the product would be outstanding.

Great replacement timer
We have a 240V pump used to irrigate our landscaping with lake water (we live on said lake!). The timer system in place was an Intermatic model normally used for timed operation of things like water heaters in large apartments. Programming it was complicated, and was made worse by the very dim display (had to use a flashlight to see it). It finally lost its mind; would turn on at the wrong times if at all. Ultimately, when power was on with the unit, the pump was always also on, so that wouldn't work well (other than just throwing the breaker ON to water the yard, then remembering to turn it off later. Not a good solution for when on vacation....) This unit seemed like a more updated version of the old Intermatic, so after reading the reviews, I opted for it. Installation was pretty straightforward, as the connections were the same as for the old unit. Once installed, I set the time, and tried operating the system in manual mode. Voila! Success! Now on to programming the new unit. The instructions were fairly clear; they must have hired a tech writer that was adept in English. I set the system for one on-time and the subsequent off-time and selected all 7 days of the week. This was markedly simpler than with the old system. The next morning at 7:15 a.m., Eureka! More success - and it timed out as programmed as well. My only complaint to date is the dim display. Again, with the unit mounted eye-level in my garage, I need to use a flashlight to see the display well enough. All the info is there; it's just not very bright. I guess we're spoiled with our phones and back-up cameras. Seems like a brighter display would be a simple upgrade for the factory to make. All in all, quite satisfied with this timer unit.

Dump the mechanical ones
Works perfectly. Bought this to replace a defective new Intermatic mechanical timer, the style I had installed many times in my career. It's working perfectly on my water heater. I'll never use the legacy mechanical timers again.

Using it to power on/off a 220v pump and salt generator for an inground pool. Have it set to run on off peak times and have had no issues. Happy and impressed. Saving a good amount of money in electricity alone. Simple to setup with great instructions. Can function on 220 or 110 connection. Well built.

the timer works as it should - setting on / off times can be a little challenging for older people the first time - the digital display could be a little larger or brighter - using it for a irrigation pump system
