A hard start device helps boost your compressor during start-up. The average unit will start up 30-50% faster when you add the CSR-U1 exact equivalent part by PartsBroz. Why does this matter? During start-up, your AC unit uses five to ten times more power than it does when itโs running. Overtime, the heat produced during start-up damages the compressor, capacitor, and terminals, reducing the product life of your AC unit. The faster your unit starts up, the less damage will be done, and the longer your unit will last. The CSR-U1 exact equivalent part by PartsBroz works with 1- to 3-ton AC units. Larger units require a larger capacitor.Quick Fix that Improves AC Start-UpAdding a hard start device to your air conditioner or compressor is a good idea if:House lights flicker during AC start upYour AC unit is noisy during start upYour AC unit takes a while to start upYou want to extend the life of your AC unitYou want to reduce your homeโs energy consumptionUnsure about compatibility with your unit? Relay and hard start capacitor are pre-connected. Merely need to connect remaining wires to existing capacitor. Also, holder tie and screws included. Nice and easy for a novice like me. So far, my compressor is working fine. Access techs charge $288-$300. WOW! Review: this product installs incredibly easy and makes the AC unit run QUIET! no power surge dimming the lights and can hardly hear the unit run. Before this product was installed the AC was super loud. Overall for 20 bucks out the door and 10minutes of time versus 300 bucks and weeks for a HVAC company to install is a no brainer

Actually NO instructions. All they give you is a schematic diagram that is both WRONG and misleading. It shows that the thermostat is involved in the wiring - which it is not! - and does not show the connection of the black wire. Had to watch a youtube video to figure it out, and their kit came with a good schematic. And this is coming from a person who is technically and electrically inclined. Having a bad diagram is a nightmare. I would've been better off having no diagram at all, because the one I got just confused me. Other than that, no problems so far. I had installed a thermostatic expansion valve in my system, and had heard that I needed to install a hard start kit. Didn't really believe that until I woke up one hot summer morning, hearing the condenser fan running, but without the telltale compressor sound. Then I heard the compressor stall, but only for one second before the overload tripped. It would keep trying for maybe an hour before catching and going. With this kit installed, it's been about a week now, and so far no more stalling compressor. I should also mention that the relay is dependent on gravity, and must be mounted upright. There is an arrow marked 'Top' faintly printed on the side of it, but again, no instructions that mention this very important part of the installation!

After doing some research on my one of my AC units sometimes fails to start and trips the fuse I found this item recommended. The design is straight forward and install was quick. I always take my time with things like this but it took under 1 hour to do both of my AC units as I decide to do the second one as well just in case. Normally it wound be 15 min per unit. I also understand that this helps to reduce stress on the AC compressor and wish I knew about that earlier and installed when the units were new to prolong the life. It's really mind blowing that this is not part of the AC units out of the factory. I guess it helps to increase sales for the company when units fail prematurely.
