I have a lot of slippage in the heel. What is proper sizing? I wear 12 in dress shoe, and 13 in athletic, so ordered the 12M, which feels too big.

I found that I had to go a full size smaller with this boot. You might be able to go a half size smaller if you wear a thicker sock.

What is the general circumstance of the shaft?

Its not too loose. It has a seam down the middle so it kind of collapses into your jeans. They're good boots and comfortable. I didn't like them at first but gave them another shot and I wear them out for dinner and whatnot now. I recommend.

What is the difference between D(M) and 2E?

2E means wide, D(M) is regular width

I believe all Ariat boots are made in China. It's a shame because they are the best fitting boots with the wide of selection of styles and colors that I have found. And, I'm a Texan who wears boots all the time. I haven't found a better boot than Ariat, short of going to a custom boot maker and paying many hundreds of dollars.
