๐ฐ๏ธ Unlock classic quad-core power for your retro revival!
The Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 SLACR is a 2006-era quad-core processor running at 2.4 GHz with 8MB L2 cache and a 105W TDP, designed for LGA 775 socket motherboards. While outdated by modern standards, it remains a cost-effective choice for retro gaming rigs, legacy servers, or refurbishing vintage PCs that demand authentic period performance.

Too old for almost any current use case, and I LIKE old tech
TLDR; Don't buy this 2006-era CPU in 2026 unless the server running your company desperately needs it, OR you really want to throw a crap-ton of money down a retro-gaming rabbit hole. And even then I would think twice at any price over $5 (five dollars) for an Intel Core 2 ANYTHING in 2026. This thing is 20 years old and is very inefficient and hot, not to mention woefully under-powered by modern standards. Good for what it is: ancient, hot, slow, outdated. In it's day (2006!) a decent processor and four whole cores was a big deal. "Was" being the operative term. I bought mine used for less than $9 (nine dollars!) back in 2018 and it was already old and slow back then, but it was compatible with an old board I was resurrecting for light/retro duty, so it was worth it at the time. But in 2026 it's basically e-waste at this point UNLESS you have a mission critical geriatric system that can put it to use, and even then make really sure there isn't a better alternative. I'm all for reusing and refurbishing old tech, but this poor thing is the CPU equivalent of Methuselah. Maybe move that old workload to a VM on a more modern system or something. Whatever you do, think hard about the price. It was barely worth nine bucks in 2018. Eight years later I would not spend more than nine bucks--not sure I'd spend $2 on it. This is not a cheap route to anything modern--not gaming, not server workloads, not desktop use. Retro gaming or an irreplaceable OLD server, maybe, but there are less old, less hot, faster, less power hungry ancient CPUs out there that can do ANY job better. Anyone selling this thing as "New" needs to provide photos of unopened packaging and a no-questions return policy. It's not impossible to have new old stock this ancient, but it is HIGHLY unlikely. The $70+ price tag I see on it today seems incredibly high for what this is.

Amazing bang for the buck!
First I want to thank Digitalcpu. They delivered the Q6600 lightning fast and professionally packaged. The processor itself... quite impressive. Although it doesn't light up the benchmarks these days, it can still hang in there with most CPU's of today. It does tend to run a little warmer than I would like, but never to the point of stressing the system. Programs open and close in a snap. As far as video editing, this is a must have. Render times are greatly improved over any dual core out there. It can play most games as long as you have a good graphics card. This processor will not be your bottleneck for sure! Pros: It's a QUAD CORE! Very cheap Powerful Runs most of today's games with no issues. Great for Video Editing Simple to install... no pins. Con: Does tend to run hot even with "GO" stepping. If you have an older system and want it to be viable a bit longer, make the leap and update that old CPU.

Worked perfectly!
Bought this to upgrade a Dell XPS 410 that had Core 2 Duo 1.8 GHz processor. This came with the thermal paste too. Put it in and it worked like a charm. Made the PC much faster! Obviously it's not as fast as a newer processor, but it extended the life of this PC until I can afford to build a new one.

Quad core from Dual Core
So I have an HP P6110F that I got from a friend that was moving. First geekout done after a few years was to windows 10 and it did fine on the E5300 that was in it but the upgrade took forever. The next geekout was SSD, WOW, I MEAN WOW... great upgrade. But after the 2016 windows update I have constantly had CPU spikes for Desktop Window Manager (DWM). So didn't use it that much and used it mostly as a platform for backing up my important files. But after the early 2016 windows update DWM got alot worse and displaylink was no help for the universal dock I had and VGA connection was eating up the CPU, though not as bad. So started reading and come across the Q6600 information and thought that $15 bucks is worth a check. It was a HUGE improvement, night and day... and DWM went from ~50% to ~10% consistently at 1900x1200... While this is a great deal and a perfect fit for my HP P6110F, I did recently get the Q9650 and it too was a HUGE improvement as well. DWM is down to less than 5% for everything except norton security scan windows and the 2013 processor is a great $45 upgrade. NOTE: DO NOT forget the thermal paste... With a 2013 processor and an SSD I will keep this thing around for another decade.

A chip ahead of its' time
installed this replacement in my old xps machine and it brought it back to life, however now the hard drives quit, so I'll installed the new hard drives and I'll be up and running in no time. this chip was/is ahead of it's time, because that old computer was bought 13 years ago and it's still very fast and accurate.

The final word for older motherboards.
This is the last, best, finest CPU for the aging (aged?) PN5-D Asus motherboard. Back in its day this chip cost upwards of $1500 - now you can get it for basically 1/100th of that price. Every year the demands on processors increases, but in recent years this rate has slowed down considerably and this makes it possible to hold on to older equipment for a lot longer and still have it work. With a little know-how, some additional RAM, a modern high-quality video card and this chip, my 8-year-old gaming machine can still compete. Can't ask for more than that!
