how long do the effects last?

4-6 hours is what I have found. Depending on how active the dogs are. I have two boxers and if I am outside and they are running around and playing with each other. I just keep and eye on them and watch for flies to land. I have never had to reapply a second time. I love, love this stuff. With a boxer you can definitely see if they have been bitten by a fly, mosquito or another insect as the hair will stand up at the spot of bite. They do very, very well with this product.
