my 50 gallon water tank started smelling, is this a good product to mitigate that?

You will want to vacuum your gravel and do a 25% water change as these are part of the required maintenance of a fish tank. Typically, once a month is fine but it depends on a number of factors. Also, take the filter system apart and be sure to replace carbon at least monthly. Carbon will remove odors from the water that are due to metals, medications, etc. Once you have done the partial water change and cleaned the filter system, then it would be good to add this product as it will help to continue to clean up the tank for you. If added regularly, it will reduce your maintenance over time.

Should I put it in the filter ? Or in the tank itself?

Great question Desmond! You can actually do it either way, it won't really make a difference. Either way it will be circulated around the tank.

We have never had a problem with cloudy water and we have been using it for about 2 years. We also clean our filter once a week.
