Does this shelving unit stand well by itself without getting tippy. I will be pacing in on a carpeted floor.

Hi Nancy. I have placed both of these units on both hardwood flooring and carpets. Each one stood well. If you are thinking of purchasing this product, I strongly suggest using the method I used. Start filling the unit from bottom to top. If you perform this method, you should have no problems. Full units, neither have tipped or wobbled. This was my concern and I was pleasantly surprised to see that this product has proven to be worthy of my expensive collection! Bar the 1 or 2 Star reviews... hope you have the same success... Jus

I like the cabinet a lot. The dimensions are 54" high and 13" wide (outside edge of cabinet measurement). It holds lots of CDs.
