Great for kayak trolling downrigger 7' 6" rod
I was on the fence with this one but after a day on the lake in my pedal kayak it held up with 4oz and 6oz cannonball dropper weights with spoons and dodgers. Caught a nice 5lb 20" lake trout and pulled it in no problem. I have no doubt this would rake in some of the heaviest salmon and steelhead. I paired it with the okuma ma20dx line counter reel. I ended up buying a second rod and reel of the same match. Very happy with it and you can't beat the price. The 7' 6" downrigger rod is perfect for kayak fishing.

Excellent price for a great rod.
Excellent price for a great rod. I use them as downrigger rods for trolling on Lake Michigan. Flexible enough to be able to properly load when attached to the downrigger but also has plenty of backbone to fight Lake Michigan king salmon. You really can't go wrong with this rod.

What the guides use
Just got it and will fish it this week for Striper, went on trip with Big Ole Fish charter and this rig is what they used...so it should work well.

Good bang for the buck
Purchased two rods this spring and have had stellar catches on the first couple outings. I trolled them with dipsy divers and have been doing the best of done in years. The action and response on the 7โ6 med-light is perfect for lake trolling!

Very Disappointing
Used these rods for the first time today on 6/24 on small downriggers with 2 lb weights. While reeling in a 3 or 4 lb largemouth bass the rod broke about 4 inches down from the tip. I was shocked as was my fishing buddy. We figured it was a freak thing until the 2nd rod broke in an almost identical way about an hour later. I purchased four of these and decided to just stow the other two and go back to Ugly Stix. Sorry Okuma, great looking pole but the quality just wasn't there for me.

price is right
I used this down rigger model for trolling, but without downrigger. I think most in this series of rods have similar action, slow. First of all the price is right, but it is indeed a very basic rod, the fit of the 2 piece is quite loose, it has not come off during fishing but it will spin off to the side after a while. I understand these rods is made to bend into the backbone alot so you can load it up with downrigger. But it's not that great once fighting fish, in my case hook set was vague and difficult. It's hard to explain and it would comes down to the individual angler. But I have more success landing fish using a faster action rod than slow action. I will say the bouncy slow action really exaggerate bites so you can see bite attempts better, the whole rod bounces up and down and even make some sound compared to a fast action rod that moves more concentrated at the tip. In this case, I found if I invest $20 more than the price of this rod, I can get a graphite rod that performed (for me anyway) better than this rod. I think trolling specific rods for kayak use is a bit overrated, a regular rod with the action of user preference can do better. We are mostly not going at high speed and not trolling for big tuna.

Works for kokanee just fine
I got two of these rods several years ago to troll for kokanee and trout. They've worked so well that when my son decided he wanted to join me, I grabbed one for him. Can't beat the price.
