How well do they clean up on nice furniture surfaces when you choose to remove them?

I have only installed them on chrome, steel, and plastic surfaces. They clean up great. I have not used on fine furniture.

Does part of the thing stay connected to the cable/wire the whole time?

I think you’re asking if the cable stays in place. I have had mine in place for over a year. The wire gets tugged on quite often and the wire is still in place. I highly recommend this one.
