Tried it and found it was worth the stick to remove the dirt. It also slowed ypu to get a deep sample for testing.

Used this multiple times in hard dirt and did not bend. Just twist in a circle and not side to side.

I could never get this to work right. We have thick, clay like soil and I have been trying to better care for new plants because it’s very hard to water with such dense soil. I struggled with this tool

Reading some of the reviews I was hesitant to buy this. But with some further reading convinced me to grab one for myself. First, my soil is sandy loam sitting on top of that good ole Blackland Prairie black gumbo clay that I have been trying to amend for years. I took 10 samples yesterday from my 6000 SQ FT yard, quickly and easily. Honestly, I didn't find the dowel that useful, however since the handle comes out of the body and its outside diameter is slightly smaller than the inside diameter of the tool body at the taper, it works fantastically to push the soil out the top of the tool I wasn't interested in keeping and reviewing striations, but I see no reason why the same process with a bit more gentleness wouldn't work. Storage is easy and compact, the handle goes in the tool body, little tape on both ends, and off into the small yard tools bin it goes.

I liked this product because it was easy to use, and got the job done. I liked the design- using the wooden rod easily ejected the soil sample out when you were ready to collect it. The item seemed sturdy enough that I was never worried about it bending or otherwise getting damaged during use. If I could change one thing, I would make the holes that the handle fits into *slightly* smaller, for a tighter fit, but that wasn't enough of a complaint for me to subtract a star. Overall, a worthwhile buy.

Not a good design. Once inserted into the soil, the soil inside the iron pipe is stuffed so solidly that it is difficult to remove the soil from the pipe.
